Swelling in armpit lymph node - have a breast clinic appointment on Wednesday and my anxiety is through the roof

Hi everyone, I currently have a large swelling under my armpit and it not sore but very uncomfortable.  Feels like iv something inside my armpit but doctors can’t feel anything. . They have referred me straight away  for an urgent referral to the breast clinic I’m due to go Wednesday and my anxiety is through the roof as unsure what to expect and over thing what if . Has anyone else experienced the same systems and how did you get through it . 

  • Welcome to the forum Coli39 although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

    I know this must be worrying, especially when you've been given an urgent referral, but I hope it helps to know that 9 out of 10 people who are referred this way are not diagnosed with cancer.

    I know that won't make this any less stressful or scary but I hope it does give you some reassurance when you go for your appointment tomorrow.

    I'm not sure from your post if you have been to a breast clinic before but if not then I hope this information I've found on what happens at a breast clinic appointment will help you feel more prepared and remove some of the anxiety you're feeling.

    Hopefully some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon but if it would help to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.
