Buttock Lump

Hi All,

About 2 months ago I suddenly noticed quite a large lump at the bottom of one of my butt cheeks, with another lump at the top of the main one. I exercise a lot and thought it might be bursitis or something so inject it a while! After see in the GP she’s referred me for an ultrasound, where they said they couldn’t decide exactly what it was (although I’m paranoid they do know and just wouldn’t tell me). I’m now booked for an MRI but every new wait is another 2 weeks!

3 years ago I had a mis-diagnosis of incurable cancer, a stomach tumour which they told me had spread. This all turned out to be totally benign but was horribly traumatising!

I’m now absolutely terrified and am struggling to cope approaching these investigations!! I have 2 children, one in her GCSE year and one just started secondary school and I’m worried I won’t be there for them!!

I Don’t really know if I have any questions or what the point of this post is, but wanted to get it down!

My thoughts and positive wishes going out to anyone going through similar trying times!!

  • Hello RXD

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting for an MRI of a lump that you found. It's understandable that you're feeling worried. It's not uncommon for additional tests to be requested in the process of getting an accurate diagnosis.

Given all that you went through with the misdiagnosis that you've shared in your post, it's understandable that you're feeling anxious and perhaps a little mistrusting of the process. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the MRI, and the results will bring the reassurance you need.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. I wonder if you might find it useful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch RXD and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
