Aggressive prostate cancer

I wondered if you might be able to give me some advice. I am pretty sure I have prostate cancer, I am on the list for a 2 week referral. I fear it is aggressive; my PSA has gone from 6.3 to 9.3 in 12 months and another test one month after the 9.3 result saw an increase to 9.8. So very high velocity.I am developing symptoms, namely sciatica and pains in my left leg and some low back pains which make me fear metastatic development. So my question to you is should I wait for the NHS progression or would I benefit from going private to speed up the diagnostic process then come back to the NHS for treatment?
Pete

  • Hi Pete.  That is such a difficult question.  Do you have a date for the referral yet?  If you are right and it is progressive metastatic prostrate cancer I do not think it would make a huge difference going private.  I know that the NHS cogs take a while to get in motion , but when they do it is all go.  Maybe if you are financially able to and it would give you more peace of mind, go private but you would need a referral letter from your GP first.  You have to do what you think is right for you.  I know that the waiting for a diagnosis and then treatment plan is the worst possible time.  I wish you luck with whatever you decide.
