Went for my routine mammogram at 50 and they advised me I needed a vacuum biopsy. Results were inclusive and have to go back for a stereo biopsy. Scared, worried for tomorrow

Hi Sarah,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
Am I right in saying that this was the first of your routine mammograms? More people get recalled after this one than any other. This is because there is no previous image to compare their findings to. Not all biopsies give a clear view of the suspect site. It is always a worry when this happens, but it doesn't always indicate something untoward. I am glad to hear that you have your vacuum biopsy tomorrow. It is scary, but the sooner you have it done the better. I sincerely hope that all turns out well.
I shall be thinking of you tomorrow. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,

Hi Jolamine
Thank you so much for your reply.
They was unable to perform the vacuum biopsy due to where it is, right under the skin.
Been booked in for an ultrasound biopsy, really hope this works.
Thank you again

Hi Sarah,
I am so sorry to hear this and hope that you won't have much more delay before you get your ultrasound biopsy. Have you been given any indication of how long you are likely to have to wait for this?
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,

Hi Jolamine
Just waiting for the appointment through the post. The nurse did tell me that the cyst is not behaving properly, the cells are interacting with each other. Do not know what this means.
She told me that I might have to go through multiple biopsies until they get the sample they need.
So painful, was in for over an hour with my vacuum biopsy to be told to go home.
Does this mean I have cancer?
Yours hoping it's not

Hi Sarah,
I am so sorry to hear that your attempted biopsy was so painful. Sometimes it can be difficult to get a clear biopsy, but it is important to get your diagnosis accurate from the start. There is no sure way to know whether or not this is cancer until you get the results of your biopsy. Ultrasound, CT and MRI scans show the size and shape of any lump or tumour, but it is the biopsy which looks at things under the microscope and diagnoses whether it is a cancer or benign. Like you, I sincerely hope that it isn't cancer and I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
