Hard fixed lump in neck

I have a hard fixed lump in one side of my neck just below my ear and jaw. It's not painful and feels like bone. I've done the thing you shouldn't do and googled it, but I can't find anything benign suggestions. I'll deal with anything that comes up, but in the meantime it would be helpful something to hold on to. Has anyone had this and it's been fine? Or does it fit anyone else's experience?

thanks

  • Hello sparky2025 and thank you for posting,

I can understand that you would like to have some answers, so the best thing to do is to go and see your doctor about these symptoms if you haven't already. We have some guidance on our website around talking to your doctor, which you can refer to at anytime. When you’re worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better, so it's sometimes best to stay away.

    I hope this is helpful,

  • Please see your GP. More often than not it’ll be a swollen lymph node because you are fighting an infection or run down. However, it can be  sign of something more serious. It was in my case, but it was dealt with & Im in remission. However, worrying about what it might or might not be is a waste of energy. Let someone qualified actually evaluate you & hopefully reassure you or if not direct you to the exceptional oncology services we have aa part of the NHS. Be brave & check it out but don't google. If you need to know more then they will tell you without scaring you to death as Dr Google does! Good luck x

  • Of course go and get this checked out by a GP. I just wanted to reassure you that I have a lump under my jaw right in front of my ear. My gp referred me to ENT at hospital who confirmed it is indeed a bone, my lymph node is actually under it. It’s been about 4 years and it’s never changed. I terrified myself thinking I was going to get my face cut open and not be able to move my face etc. still important to get checked out of course, but hopefully just be a bone too x

  • Thank you for your replies. I've seen a doctor and am awaiting an ultrasound. I was just looking for something hopeful to help the nerves in the meantime.

    Thanks again
