Stomach Biopsy

Hi

I had a biopsy done 10 days ago - after being rushed in for Endoscopy. They found a few “Nodular Mucosa” with some abnormalities in stomach and duodenum consistent with Gastritis (H pylori is negative)

I’ve had stomach issues for a while, put it down to bad diet, smoking, alcohol and working a mixture of days and nights for so long. Over the last couple of years I’ve been belching a lot, suffering pain, feeling swollen (just thought that’s where I can be a pig and eat to much)

Now it’s a regular, what got me scared was I awoke at 2am with severe pain in abdomen and top of back, genuinely thought I was having a AAA.
Went to GP and they sent me for endoscopy.

I’m not going to lie I am a little scared for results and really haven’t been right since I awoke at 2am, which is coming on 3 weeks now.

In the last few years I noticed I’m not able to eat too much spice, fizzy, certain alcohol and certain medication’s.

But I am thinking if biopsy was cancerous, would it take longer than 10 days to come back? I kinda look at it like “No news is good news” right?

I am a 42 year old female - has anyone been in this position before?

  • Hi Vix,

Biopsy results take as long for good news as they do for bad or indeterminate news.

On the NHS website it says, “The length of time it takes to receive biopsy results is primarily determined by the specific type of biopsy, the complexity of the sample, and the processing capabilities of the laboratory.”

Most of us feel that wailing for results is the worst bit.

    Good luck!

    Hi Dave

Thanks for your reply - I think deep down I knew (I actually work in NHS) but just kinda hoped that I was correct.

I’ve never had to have a biopsy, so this waiting is making me anxious and I know that’s a pretty normal feeling. Very different when we’re the patient right?
I probably would’ve pushed it to the back of my mind but I’m still suffering, and reading the words “dysplasia screening” “nodulars” and that the only thing showing normal on my report was my Oesophagus (which is where I thought I had the issues) I honestly thought they were going to tell me I had an Ulcer.. I have small erosions in the pre plyoric area also, all these big fancy words haha.

I know all I can do is wait, hopefully it’s consistent with Gastritis as that’s also mentioned in the report.

I appreciate your response. Thank you :)

    Hi Vix,

By coincidence, I also worked for the NHS and I made for a very critical patient.

    Good luck with your results!
