13mm liver lesion

A 13mm lesion on my liver showed up as an incidental finding on a ct scan. I then had an MRI scan on it and it was discussed at the MDT meeting. Although they believe it to be benign, they have arranged for me to have the alphafetoprotein blood test (liver cancer) and another MRI in 6 months time.

why would these additional tests be done if they believed it to be benign???? I’m petrified that they are not telling me something. For reference i am 40 years old, female and the most anxious person on earth

  • ahhh thank you for getting in touch! i was trying to reply to one of our threads but it kept not sending so thank you for reaching out!

Yes and i just wanted to thank you for your support and kind words at a time when i really needed it.

I found out last week that there had been no change in the 6 month mri and that the liver cancer blood test had come back normal. phew!!!! only had to wait 8 months from it being found to thankfully having the best possible outcome. I have now been discharged with no further testing required.

So a huge thank you once again!!! how are you doing xxx

  • Hi Farmer Ed,

    How are you keeping????

i just wanted to reach out and say a huge thank you for your kind words and advice when i really needed them.

I have had my 6 month mri and thankfully everything has remained the same and the liver c blood test came back normal!!!

Only 8 months of worry haha!

    I hope you are well

  • Hi emrae

Your good news about you being discharged has cheered me up today. It is so good to see a happy outcome after such a long time bearing the anxiety that comes with not knowing. Im doing OK with immunotherapy keeping cancer stable. All the best.

    Ed

  • Oh that is fantastic news, what a relief for you!

I am good thanks, I have had my 6 monthly scan which shows that my new lesion has not grown, they are confident that it is benign. I am still awaiting my blood test results, but I am confident that will be ok. I will still have regular scans & blood tests for the next 9 years, so I need to just go with the flow & trust that my 'unwanted friend' doesnt come back.

I am delighted that you can move on with your life now, without this worry hanging over you.

    All the best. xxx

  • ahhh you are sooo lovely!! always keeping others reassured when you are navigating your own hurdles, that makes for a special person!

Im glad the immunotherapy is doing its thing!!

  • new lesion???!!!? how the heck did i miss that???!! how what and when?!?

you like to keep those consultants on their toes!!!

I’m glad that it is staying stable and behaving itself!! at least they can monitor it and they will monitor it without fobbing you off …. for at least 9 years anyway!

im sure all will be well especially with your upbeat approach to things that come your way (remember to send some my way!!!)

  • I may not have mentioned it before. It was mentioned on the first ultrasound after my operation, so back in January I guess. It is only a tiny one (7mm), my consultant wanted to send me for another MRI, but referral was rejected as the radiologist said it was clearly a benign one. When I saw my consultant a couple of weeks ago, she reassured me that she had rechecked my original MRI and this lesion was showing then. However because everyone was focused on the 'big brother' and getting that one out, no-one paid much attention to this little one. I am happier now that I know it was there originally, when I thought it was a new one, I was worried that I was still developing them for some reason.

I am very lucky, my consultant is a very cautious lady and she is trying to get approval for me to have an annual CT scan also (chest to pelvis). Which I would be delighted with, I am under annual screening for breast cancer also, due to family risk, so that would be reassuring to cover that as well.

But yes, life is good and I do my best to enjoy every moment if it. Hopefully you will now be doing the same!  xxx
