Dent in breast and pain in armpit

Hello,

I noticed a dent in my right breast towards the bottom and I am occasionally getting pain in my armpit. I have started to google and I’ve got myself really worried and upset. Going to book a doctors appointment in the morning but I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this? I’m so so scared.

Thank you x

  • I had a dent in my left breast. I just looked at it in the mirror when I was having a wash. I was thinking initially 'this is an age thing', I was 56. After several months I started thinking, ' if it's age related, why is it only on one side?' Several weeks later I was driving home from work with the car radio on. A notification came on saying something about checking your breasts regularly and that it's not only feeling a lump that could indicate something amiss. One of the other things mentioned was a dent. After that I knew I should go to the GP. and was very scared. All that happened 13 years ago. Today I am a healthy grandmother of a wonderful 4 year old boy.

  • Hi Livrose,

A very warm welcome to our form.

I am sorry to hear of your symptoms and agree with you that it is time to get this investigated, so do please make that appointment tomorrow morning. If you tell the receptionist what it is for, you should not have to wait long for an appointment. It is always scary when you have found a change and, the longer you wait, the more scary it is. Try to steer clear of Google, as much of the information is out of date, poorly researched and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This won't give you any useful information, and will only serve to scare you even further.

I didn't have a dent, but a small lump, which turned out to be cancer. I had a second bout the following year. That was all 15 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello,

Thank you for your lovely message & I am so sorry you have had to go through that x

I just wanted to give a quick update as I think it’s important so other people can read a positive outcome as the internet is full of the worst possible outcomes which has sent me spiralling the last few days.

I had an appointment with my GP and he said he felt a lump but thought it was benign and he put the indentation down to skin changes and because I am under 30 and have no family history of cancer he didn’t see the need to refer me. This didn’t feel good enough so I booked in at a private clinic with a breast specialist as I just didn’t feel reassured at all. I am so thankful that he did a thorough check and he didn’t feel a lump at all! He said sometimes gps don’t check properly and often feel tissue! My indentation and pain is due to me having a larger breast size which was causing this to happen.

So ladies if you are reading this please don’t panic and please stop googling as everyone’s story is different and it isn’t always a bad outcome. There isn’t much positive information on the internet about indentation but I promise you there is other reasons for this

  • Hi Livrose,

Thank you for the update and I am delighted to hear that there is nothing to worry about. 1 in 2 people get breast cancer in their lifetime, so please don't be afraid to get checked out again if you notice any further changes to your breast.

It is so heartening to hear good news here!

    Regards,

    Jolamine xx
