Melanoma worry

Hello, 

I have a couple of small moles on my breasts, I’ve had them for a while, they’re very small and I’ve never really paid much attention to them. 
however I noticed the other day that they both now have black areas/spots on them. I took a couple of photos and sent them ti my GP who has booked an appt in for Monday. 
I have asked my husband this evening to check the moles on my back as I have a few there too. Looking at the pics a few other brown moles (various sizes) also have black areas/spots on them. 
One is quite raised and at times has been itchy but it’s not persistent. 
I’m starting to get quite worried. Why would a number of moles all have black spots in them? Is this a sign of melanoma?

    You can find out more about the symptoms of melanoma on our website and use these pictures we have of abnormal moles, melanoma and skin changes to get an idea of what to be on the lookout for but to get an answer to the question you've asked in your post, it would be best to give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to help.

    I understand your worry, I am currently in a very similar situation with changes to my current moles and news ones appearing and growing quickly. I had an appointment yesterday and now waiting for a Urgent Dermatology referral, been told it is going to be 2-4 weeks for an appointment. Its really hard for it not to consume your every thought. My husband and family are telling me not to worry and that they are sure its fine, I know they are trying to comfort me, however I am worrying and it is taking over all my thoughts.

    Saying it outload and allowing myself to say that yes I am worried is helping me. 

    I hope your appointment went well and you have managed to get your mind put at ease.

    Thanks for replying, and I’m sorry to hear you’re going through a stressful time too. Like you say, it can be so consuming and exhausting because of that. The fear of the unknown is the worst thing. 


    I spend hours just googling, the worst thing to do I know. But I just simply want to know if my exact kind of mole is ‘normal’ or ‘common’ but every thing I google or any one I speak to can’t give a definitive answer (of course) but that in itself makes me more nervous. 

    my GP reassured me that the moles I can’t see on my back are fine but the one on my breast she immediately and aged about and took a number of photos with her Dermascope and sent them off to see if I need a referral. She initially wasn’t sure if I would need one but then quickly ended the appt with “I’ll contact you in a week to discuss WHEN you’ll be seen” which was not reassuring at all!  

    I can see the images she took on the NHS App and I’m obsessed with looking at it, it’s gross but amazing too.  

    Talking is super helpful and I’m glad you’ve recognised that too. It’s so hard not to let it consume you but be reassured (as I’m telling myself too) that there are many types of moles, that can grow anywhere at different speeds. Every single person is different. I hope you can find ways to get through the next few weeks. You got this!! X
