Still waiting and waiting for mammogram results!

Dear anyone that reads this,

..I have posted on here somewhere before regarding my history of very busy breasts that have been found to have lots of different benign things going on in them. I found out after having a 5 cm fibroadenoma removed that unusually it was found to contain LCIS, hence the breast clinic keeping a close eye on me. My surgery was in 2022 and my yearly mammogram results have been uneventful. However my latest mammogram was on 17 th December last year and was told 2 weeks for results initially by the lady doing my mammogram....

Well it's now beginning of February so I rang breast clinic, rebooked my face to face consultation which I initially cancelled to a phone call one after I realised there was a delay in results. I was told while on the phone before I rebooked "don't you want to know the findings?" but of course wasn't allowed to hear results over the phone.

Then I received a letter with no mammogram results just saying" a member of the breast surgery team will phone you to discuss your treatment and answer any queries you may have".

My brain has been working overtime trying to make sense of this.

I contacted PALS to see if I could at least get my phone consultation bought forward to get results or at least for the breast clinic to post them to put me out of my misery.

It's hard counting down the days until  I speak to the breast surgery team on 7 th March. I am beginning to think that I must be a very complex case ( they have had difficulties reading my mammogram before because of my extremely dense breasts)

I thought contacting PALS would help clarify things, after all a 5 mins phone call from someone would put my mind at rest.

So I am still waiting and waiting,.., I think it could be the longest wait ever soon! I can't find fault with the clinic while they are treating you but when it comes to mammogram results I really don't know what's going on.

If anyone has finished reading this I would be interested in your feedback.

Many thanks Guinea pig lover.xx

  • Hey Guineapiglover,

I noticed you haven't had a reply to your post just yet so I wanted to let you know that it has been seen and that we're sending you all our support whilst you wait.

Hopefully some of our members will stop by soon to share their experiences and feedback but if you ever want to talk to one of our cancer nurses about this, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

In the meantime, our thoughts are with you Guineapiglover and we'll have our fingers crossed for good news on the 7th.

  • Dear Guineapiglover,

If you insert your name in the search box above, you will find your post of 25 days ago. I replied to this, suggesting that you contacted your consultant's secretary for your results.  Explain that you were advised of a 2 week wait for your mammogram results, that it has now been 8 weeks and that it is a further 4 weeks, before you have an appointment. Explain how difficult you are finding it to manage your anxiety and ask if there is any way that this could be brought forward.

I sincerely hope that you'll be successful and that all is still ok. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Dear Steph and Jolamine,

Here's an update on my breast saga of waiting an age for mammogram results. I contacted PALS on 3rd February and they kindly got back to me quickly and said that they had contacted the breast clinic manager to ask if they could go on and give me my results or if it was still their clinical practice to have an appointment to receive them to bring it forward. I still hadn't heard anything until a few days ago when low and behold an email and text informed me they have cancelled my phone call appointment for 7 th March. They also stated that they were going to schedule a new appointment as soon as possible. They did apologise aswell!

I feel this is progress, however I think my experience this time is slightly different from previous experience. After all this I hope it's just a question of  mammogram results that's slightly unusual/ different treatment plans might be discussed or maybe it's just an extra test or something. The trouble is I think the longer you wait your brain works overtime trying to figure out what is happening. I am sorry I am not so positive as in previous postings but this has been more difficult than I thought this time.

Thanks for all your support, getting these things off your chest does help.

Best wishes and kind regards guinea pig lover.x
