Is this cancer?

Hi everyone, looking for some advice as I'm driving myself crazy. I have a slipped disc which I've been having regular MRI scans on. On a recent MRI I was told there was something seen on there which could be a possible bladder prolapse, however I have no symptoms of this. When I got to my scan appointment I was told that something was seen on my kidney and that is what's being looked at.

I had the contrast dye, they said they'd scan and then put the dye in and wait 10 minutes. However they then said there was no need to wait the 10 minutes and let me go after scanning straight away.

I've not heard anything for the last 5 days and I don't know where I stand or what they're even looking for. Doctor Google suggests they could be looking for cancer, but surely I'd have heard something by now? I can't get through to the hospital to find out who referred me or who I'm waiting to hear from and when I do get through to someone I'm being fobbed off.

Does this sound like they're looking for cancer and something may have been found?

  • Hello Peachyqueen28,

This must be a truly worrying time for you but make sure you ignore the suggestions of the famously unreliable Dr Google. It's so hard waiting for results and not knowing where you stand. As you will see on our page on the MRI scan, you should normally get your results  within 1 or 2 weeks but make sure to contact the doctor who arranged the test if you haven’t heard anything after a couple of weeks.

Try not to worry too much while you are waiting or to anticipate the worst as there are so many other things it could be other than cancer and hopefully you will have some definite answers soon. In the meantime, I would recommend you read our helpful tips to help you cope while you are waiting for important news.

I hope that you will hear from other community members who have been through something similar before. We are keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you get a proper diagnosis very soon.

    Best wishes,
