Raised CA 125 - freaking out

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading this. I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation... I'm 37 and recently went to the doctors because I sometimes get quite severe bloating and sometimes feel 'pressure' when I wee or sit down. Nothing too extreme, but I've become aware of these things, whereas I never used to notice anything like this.

The doctor was really thorough and did a pelvic examination at my appointment. She said everything looked and felt normal, but referred me for a CA 125 test and pelvic and renal ultrasound to rule anything out.

I had my blood test on Monday this week and got the results through on the NHS app yesterday. It's 46... I've got my ultrasounds booked later this morning, but I've not slept and I'm just going out of my mind with worry. I've googled myself to madness and keep reading conflicting things - some reassuring, some not so much.

I don't want to leave my little boy and husband prematurely and am terrified that the sonographer won't tell me anything at the scan today and I'll be caught in a 'waiting' loop.

Has anyone else been through anything similar?

Thanks again for reading xx

  • How did you get on? I’ve got CA125 39 and my ultrasound found thickening of endometrium and 2cm irregular ovarian mass. I had an MRI on Sunday and waiting results. It’s just horrible isn’t it. The worry.

  • Hi,I'm going through the exact same..dr done all physical checks and she said everything looked fine etc but just for a piece of mine to send me on I had my ultrasound done first. Found thickening of the womb. The dr didn't tell me how thick & that's all I was told he was putting me on to gynea.. I had to get the Ca125 bloods done too. Waiting on the results. Don't google, it's the worst it always tells us the worst cases. The past while I have been making myself sick over it.

I hope you get on ok, let's us know. I'm holding your hand xx

  • I tell you what’s worse that google - ChatGPT!

I think even the bot is sick of me - it’s started replying in bold!

thank you and likewise on the support x

  • Hello, thanks so much for replying, it is horrible... I had my ultrasound and the sonographer wouldn't say too much. She did promise me that there was nothing that caused her alarm - I was so upset and begged her to tell me if there was anything sinister looking. I've had a call since from my GP to say I'm to go for an appointment on March 7th to discuss the results and that there's nothing sinister and I shouldn't worry. I can see on my NHS app that they've written there are signs of endometriosis on my left ovary and some thickening of the womb. Since then, I've had dull aches that come and go on my left side... Just confused and worried by it all. Have you heard anything back yet?

  • Hey, thank you for replying, how are you getting on? It's awful going through the worry and uncertainty isn't it...I'm waiting for an appointment on March 7th to discuss my US results.

  • Well my MRI says I have a benign condition in my endometrium and both ovaries are normal. This doesn’t explain why the US identified 2cm suspicious mass. Trying to get to the bottom of it all is like wading through treacle. My son is a doctor and he’s advised me to ask for a second opinion.
