Cervical smear test results

Hi have been through loads of testing over past seven months due to post menapausal bleeding change in bowel and lots and lots of weight loss

I have been prodded poked scanned pictured mri’d you name it basically and my doctor was sure I had cancer somewhere but we couldn’t find so we opted for a watch and wait after my last set of tests again came back negative I went last Wednesday for my smear test haven’t had one for a few years due to vaginal atrophy so Tuesday got an appointment through for a colposcopy this Tuesday apparently I have high risk hpy and cin 3 I want to know if this is likely to be cancer because of my symptoms I know you can’t say yes or no but it is likely I think has anyone else been in this position I don’t even know where I would have got hpy from I’ve been married for 37 years surely it can’t lay dormant for that long as never had a positive result before any info would be appreciated thanks for reading

  • Hello Anyone-is-me,

You seem to have been through so many tests in the last few months and it must have been a bit puzzling that nothing has been found and I hope that your symptoms improve soon and that they will be eventually able to tell you more about what was causing them. Having High Risk HPV and Cin3 doesn't mean you have cancer but it's good that they have found it so that they can treat it early and quickly.

Have a look at our detailed information on abnormal cervical cells and on HPV which I hope you will find reassuring and if you have any questions or would like to talk to our cancer nurses about your particular situation, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I also wanted to let you know that I have responded to another member of our community  who has been feeling a bit like you recently and posted this thread on their Hsv2 and high risk HPV diagnosis so feel to post a reply there if you would like to talk to someone else who is in a similar position.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi had my colposcopy and doctor didn’t remove anything was told I need  to be put out to do it as the area is too large to be done with just numbing is this normal I have high grade hpv and severe dyskaryosis is this pointing even more to cancer?? Or is it normal to be put out for loop excision

  • Hi Anyone-is-me,

You may find it helpful to have a chat with one of our nurses about this - they should be able to help with your question. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Do of course also speak to your doctor with any questions about any potential next steps.

    Best wishes,
