Endoscopy

I'm being fast tracked for endoscopy and I'm terrified having read mixed reviews not just about the procedure but the numbing spray. I know I will need sedation. Has anyone recently had one that wasn't as bad as they feared.

  • Hi Roey, and welcome, I had an endoscopy less than 2 weeks ago, my first, with just the spray which tastes slightly of banana, but most importantly, does it's job, after signing the relevant forms which took about 30 minutes, the actual procedure took maybe 5 minutes. Roey, I have dysphagia, which means I have trouble swallowing, Anyway everyone was friendly and supportive, offering me good advice to help me through, nobody was sure the procedure would work on me, and apart from retching twice as the camera went down, had no issues, PS they took 3 biopsy samples and i didn't have a clue, my mouth was a little numb from the spray for 5-10 minutes, but once that went away, I was allowed to drive home, Eddie

Thank you for this. I have trouble swallowing and worried I won't be able to swallow the tube too.

Hi, Roey,  you are welcome, that was our concern as well, but 2 swallowing motions was all it took, but once that's done the rest is easier.
