High grade severe Dyskaryosis and HPV

Hi

please, is there anyone else who’s had (High grade severe Dyskaryosis and HPV) ? What’s turned out to not be cancer?

I am so so worried, just had my letter back confirming I have both High grade severe Dyskaryosis and HPV. I have got to wait now for a Colposcopy but I am in absolute bits.

I am on my own with a little girl whom needs me and I’m scared to death it’s Cancer. Also, not sleeping and haven’t slept in 2 weeks due to my beautiful Nan passing away on the 10th of December and now this, I can’t take much more and the worry is making me ill.

so my question really is, has anyone been diagnosed with both High grade severe Dyskaryosis and HPV and it’s not been cancer please?

thank you to you all for all the help you give on this page!

  • Hi Kayles

Please try not to worry, even High Grade Dyskaryosis is usually classed as abnormal cells but NOT cancer itself.  I was diagnosed in my late 20's with having Cin3 abnormal cells (now known as High Grade), I presume that I also had HPV  but that was before they started testing for it.  I had a colposcopy and had a large area of cervix removed via loop diatherm procedure.  That was nearly 30 years ago now and I have never had another abnormal smear, following my procedure.  So rest assured that the screening process really does work at nipping things in the bud, before it turns into cancer.

What you can do whilst waiting for your appointment, is to try boosting your immune system to get rid of the HPV.  Research what you can do to eat healthily, reduce alcohol if you drink and try to increase exercise.  Not only will it help your immune system, it will also help your mental health whilst waiting.

Good luck and I hope you get good results.

  • Hi Annie,

Thank you so very much, and thank you for your quick response,

I’ve been in an absolute state. This has definitely helped my nerve's. I can’t thank you enough!

preferably, I would want a Hysterectomy have it all removed, if that can be done. But thank you again this has helped more than you know.

  • Do you have a date yet for when your colposcopy appointment will be?

Have you had regular smear tests up to this one?  Fingers crossed, it will turn out to be nothing or easily sorted out by removing the abnormal cells if necessary.  Yes, I always swore to myself that if the abnormal cells ever came back, I would want a hysterectomy and just get rid of the risk.  Luckily so far at the age of 57, all is still ok.

These types of things are always worrying and no matter how much people say 'dont worry', we still do, unfortunately our minds always tend to think of the worst possible scenario.

I went through testing for cancer this year (liver cancer), I had 2 months of scans and tests and then surgery to remove the tumour (luckily it turned out to be benign after it was tested).  The only way that I got through it was to tell myself that until someone told me otherwise, I would believe that it was benign.  My mother used to tell me that there was no point worrying, until you knew for sure that there was something to worry about!

Try to get some rest and dont let your mind run away with itself.

  • Hi,

I had cin3, so the same as yourself and hpv, I had lletz treatment around 5 years ago but my body hasn't managed to rid itself of hpv so I have regular colposcopies and have more abnormal cells on my cervix which up til now has been a wait and see approach. With the hysterectomy part, I also asked about this and was told you still have to go for smears etc as they check the upper vagina aswell as the cervix. Try not to worry too much, I know it's hard

Good luck with your results and any treatment you may need

  • Hi there, I am in a similar boat to you :( I am 42 and was an idiot and didn't have a smear test for years and years (decades)....I had a bad experience once where the test caused me to faint and it became a bit of a phobia. But on 2nd Jan I said to myself go get it done. This morning I got a call from the hospital to say I am being booked in for a colposcopy and LLTEZ which is taking place on Tuesday. High risk HPV and high grade (moderate) dyskaryosis had been detected in my results. I am absolutely petrified. I have a little girl with severe autism who needs me. I keep blaming myself for not getting screened regularly, and have been saying it will be my own fault if it's the worst news.

I hope things have improved for you now?! I too am beside myself with worry :( xx

  • I’m in exactly the same position and am interested how everyone has got on. My smear result was high grade severe dyskaryosis to cells and cervix as well as a HPV positive result.
I’ve been having bleeding in between my periods, pain in my lowed abdomen, pain in my lower back and unusual discharge for months. Went to the GP, have had blood tests which discovered a raised CA125, then an ultrasound to check my ovaries which found a small fibroid but nothing else.

Now I’ve had my smear test results back and had this. I’m so worried.

I’ve been told my colposcopy appointment will be twenty minutes - and it included a leaflet about having a LLETZ. I’m really worried.

  • Hi, I'm sorry that you're feeling worried. I was in exactly your position a couple of months ago. I had the same smear result but I didn't have any symptoms or irregularities in bleeding etc. I had a colopscopy and a LLETZ procedure, which is painless as they use local anaesthetic to numb your cervix so please don't worry. Your consultant will look at your cervix to see the cell changes. Depending on what they see, they will offer to do the LLETZ then and there. It's so quick to remove the cells. They will then send the cells off for testing. My consultant said she could see a small area of high change. I don't know whether they can see tumours during a colposcopy but it's possible. It took about 5 weeks for my results to come back which confirmed the cell changes my smear test had picked up but no malignancy was found.

Please be aware that the smear test results do not mean you have cancer. The test shows that you've had cell changes which need treatment to prevent them from becoming cancer.

The fact you've had a clear ultrasound of your ovaries is a good sign. I believe fibroids can also cause bleeding/abdominal pain etc.

I know how awful is it being in a state of worry but please try not to. Keep us posted with how you get on. I'm sure it will be fine xx

  • Hi I had high risk hpv type 16 and high grade ( severe) diskaryosis I went for a colposcopy. They were going to do a lletz procedure but was told I needed to have it done under a ga as too large to do in clinic so I feel your worry as you do but the cells are just changing they are not cancer yet so have your lletz done and try not to worry I’m sure it will be ok I’m 58 and had a smear for the first time in 25 years like the other commenters I had a bad experience but at least we all caught it now when something can be done so stay positive have great days and try not to worry let us all know how things go and remember all worrying does is make you tired it doesn’t change anything or make it quicker so what’s the point lol xx
