Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

Parents
  • I had a colonoscopy in December,  my consultant advises sedation for the procedure, it made the whole process painless and without stress. The prep didn't cause any issues, drinking plenty of water is the key for a good result.  I was able to be at home, relax and have access to the bathroom... I wish you good luck,  relax and breathe..

  • Hi  I had my colonoscopy Tuesday this week I had it with nothing I just wanted them to get on with it  but my results wasn’t great they found a tumour in my rectum they took 8 biopsies  she said it could have been in there a while. I just thought the feeling I had was piles  I was passing blood a lot towards these last few weeks  but funny enough since the biopsies I haven seen any blood  and I had a normal bm hadn’t had one of them in ages  but I’m feeling a bit sick with thought of food don’t know if that’s just me with my anxiety and stress over it all  or the cancer hope you had a better out come than I did. X

  • Any words feel inadequate I hope you have support and understanding from family and friends at this time .

I've had issues for 14 months,  5 positive qFIT results,  colonoscopy booked in June which had to be cancelled,  finally done in December and now told 18-20 week wait for results..

I have no appetite,  trying to eat as I  realise how important it is but...

I don't feel stressed or anxious, just want answers....

Have you been advised of a plan going forward...

As I said, words feel so inadequate but I'm thinking of you and sending positive vibes

  • I called Colorectal consultant today re results... told 18-20 week wait... being given your result at the time must have been a great shock....waiting feels endless..

  • Hi it was awful getting the results just like that I have a growth in my rectum  and it had been growing a while. I still can’t get my head around it  it’s on my mind all the time knowing I have a growth inside me I’m really scared I don’t know any more until the biopsies come back and I need to have a scan to see if it’s spread any where  I keep feeling a little sick just hoping that’s my anxiety and not the growth causing it  I feel down and think is this the end of the road for me as my dad had the same it spread to his brain then he died   I’m really sore up there with 8 biopsies she took and still passing mucus and wind  she told me not to eat potatoes with skins on and eat really good food to build me up for what ever I may have to go through I hope every one is doing better  lots of love x

  • I can only imagine the impact on you, being given such news,  overwhelming

Have you been assigned a Cancer nurse

A close friend has recently gone through this situation and has a designated nurse... there is the same option on most Cancer support groups.

Sending very gentle hugs I'm sure you're feeling alone and desperate and hope you have support and understanding from those close to you...always here xx

  • You have the same symptoms as myself, I had 10 biopsies but had sedation so I don't know if that's why I didn't have any pain x

  • I hope you get good news,  . One would imagine if they're making you wait weeks, it's hopefully a minor and treatable issue, relatively speaking. But any of these issues are unpleasant and worrying. Hoping for the best for you.

  • Thanku so much James4000...

My concern is that the original appt was for June which had to be cancelled as I was still in the bathroom 30 minutes before the appointment time.. it was only flagged up in November during an asthma check up...when G.P said he felt my symptoms were not related to my asthma but to bowel cancer.. so a further positive qFIT and colonoscopy 17th Dec..I  was then told the referral should have been USOC for 2ww but hadn't been...18-20 weeks is the result time given for colonoscopy results in South Lanarkshire...I had major reconstruction of my bladder 40 years ago using part of my bowel.. the procedure was stopped shortly after due to the high rate of bowel cancer post op...

Thanku again for your kind words ️

  • James4000 what I have noticed with me is the more I try and eat the more I feel pressure and pass mor blood  if I don’t eat I seem a bit better in that department  so that makes me not want to eat  sorry to ask but does eating a bit more affect you in that way

Sorry to jump in on your reply to James... close friend diagnosed autumn last year.. taking laxatives to ensure  having regular B.M ..vital in preventing compacted bowel.. she has very little appetite and severe weight loss.. I try to encourage her to take the laxatives and not wait until she feels constipated..awful cycle to be in for you
