Failed Biopsy for Ovarian Cyst

I have posted before but wanted to create a second post specifically about biopsy process as I am unable to find much info. Was booked for a biopsy today. I had asked for info on the procedure but secretary didn't know anything and I had no opportunity to talk to consultant before hand. Had no opportunity to prepare at all and from reading on the internet was thinking I would have an ultrasound and a needle would be inserted through my abdomen. Consultant took me straight into room and I was told to undress lower half. Was like process to have a smear but as soon as he tried to take a sample I experienced extreme pain. I got very upset and my partner got very upset. Instantly started bleeding so they decided to stop. I went to the toilet and passed a huge clot and have been bleeding since (a few hours) Consultant has said they will try a different test as they are also worried about the thickness of my womb -think I also have adenomyosis. Have had ultrasounds and MRI and cyst  was 10x8x11cms when that was carried out two weeks ago. I am in constant pain and exhausted. I am unable to leave the house due to random flooding - sometimes like watered down blood other times massive clots. Consultant is adamant I have to try this next test - he said it uses water so will be less uncomfortable. I did say I don't think I can cope with any more tests but he was quite insistent and won't consider surgery until we have tried. I feel so low right now, I'm exhausted and lonely and in constant pain. I also don't have a clue what this test involves either - other than water... If anyone could advise I would be very grateful.

  • Hi sorry to here of your pain. Have you not been given option for cysts to be removed. Mines nearly 6cm. I've been given option for it to be removed. Which I have opted for. Was not sure if I chose right option but then reading you been in a lot of pain.

  • It sounds horrible! Did they do any emergency scans/investigations?

  • When it raptured it was 2mm short of recommended removal. I was trying to push it afterwards but it went nowhere... Then lockdown and cancer and in those years it's grown bigger so they found it harder to say no :)

  • I have had ultrasound and MRI. Bloods were fine. They tried to do a biopsy but was horrendous so asked to see another consultant as he just booked me for a hysteriscopy without an aneasthetic and i knew i couldnt cope with anything else. Am rather in limbo atm as asking to see someone else has basically sent me to the back of the queue again.

  • GP last night was lovely but basically said it was a case of go to A&E and wait hours for scans etc or go home and see if i dtayed ok. Did say come straight back if any more pain.

  • All I can advise is keep bothering them, every day if needed, demanding the answers. And ask for anesthetic, at least local, with whatever procedures they are doing...

Once I went with my sister in law for her minor operation to have polip in the womb removed. I was there as interpreter. They never offer anesthetic to begin with, only gave injection when she start to cry and I passed out

  • Hi  from 5cm they are ment to give you option to have removed as yours is 10cm you should be given option. I was given the option when I was first referred to gynecologist but decided to wait because I was being treated for other cancers. I would get on to them especially when your I pain.

  • Yes they said they will remove just want to do so many tests first and every time they say they want to do something else I have to wait another two weeks. Just fed up of whole process now. Wasnt helped by the fact no letters were delivered to my house so i didnt get any of my results - GP read me the letters when i asked to be re referred. The cyst had grown by iover a cm between the uktrasound and MRI...it was 12cms when that was done, would have thought that would be another indicator it needs to come out asap.

  • Yeah definitely. I have not had any pain but sometimes I think it maybe near the bladder. I think I will definitely sign my consent for the surgery. Though it is a waiting list.  I hope you gets your done soon.

  • Hi im having ovarian cyst removed at end of month, I got a letter requested by gynecologist consultant from ct department for examination. Did you have a ct scan before cyst removal. I'm not sure if it's a mistake because I have got scans requested for my other condition from dermatology. They say my cyst is benign. can't book until first day of period.  I have not been told nothing.
