Nipple changes - Nipple pulled

Hi guys,

My right nipple has changed in its appearance quite drastically over the last few months.  The nipple/areola looks like it’s being pulled UP as opposed to being inverted. Almost like the whole area is shrinking / disappearing. The areola/nipple almost appears wrinkled but lifting.
No pain or discharge etc but a very obvious change in the appearance.  Went out with friends last weekend wearing a backless top (no bra!) and all 3 sort of shrieked when they seen me asking me when I got my nipple pierced! I didn’t, my nipple just looked absolutely deformed through my top!!!

That was the last straw and so I attended the GP this morning.  They’ve obviously referred me in on the 2 week rule and reassured me this could be a million different things including ageing changes (I’m 35 F). I just wanted to query if anyone else had a similar presentation and what was your experience?

  • I'm going to the breast clinic next week due to a small lump which I found only as my areola looked weird to me. My local is apparently a one stop shop if it's needed. Consultation, mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy if they're needed. I'm hoping that there's nothing to worry about but also worried about wasting their time/resources as it feels rather innocuous but the GP felt it too and made the referral. I'm 42 f. So, not a similar presentation but I thought I'd say hi anyway as we'll probably see the clinics at the similar time. I only seen the GP Friday past and I got the appointment through Tuesday. It's horrible not knowing. I've had a cancer scare before and been through it with my partner who has melanoma.

  • Hi it’s lovely to hear from you! I’m sorry you’re finding yourself in a similar situation.
it’s a hard place isn’t it because just like you I’m worried I’m wasting NHS time/resources but I’ve also made my husband take photos of my breasts and they look like two completely different breasts now and I’m just in absolute shock at when this happened ?
one areola and nipple is smooth and round, the other one is like a shrivelled up prune, small and wrinkled. The size difference in them is astounding.

  • I really hope you get answers quickly. I felt so much better when I got word of my appointment.

My partner is always more anxious whenever there's scans etc. to go to/results to wait for. They call it "scanxiety." He actually copes better once he has the news either way.

  • I have seen your comments on someone else’s post regarding an ovarian cancer scare and I swear me and you are the same person !!!!!

I had the exact same thing last year, the CRP blood test was deranged, colposcopy biopsy etc but all turned out to be hormonal for me thank god!! (A long way away from the menopause according to the specialist lol).

I just found it so bizarre we’ve had the same medical history!! Best of luck next week at the hospital, please keep me updated with how you get on xxx

  • Yeah, likewise. Really hoping there's a non scary explanation for what you're experiencing. I think I might just be a cyst prone person. Well, that's what I'm hoping. My SIL is recovering from breast cancer. She's been tumour free for a couple of years now. It was really hard as loads of people in our family got cancer all around the same time and I had a cancer scare so we were all over the place emotionally. I wish life could just be smoother for a bit for all of us xxx
