Post breast biopsy callback

Hey everyone.

I had a breast biopsy last week. The clinic just called, following MDT meeting, and have said that it looks benign but would like me to come back in for more checks.

Whilst I hugely appreciate the reassurance: is this standard procedure? Or might it be because they were struggling to get the sample and want to repeat?

Interested in any views / experience!!

Thanks

L

  • Hello LisWoo,

It's extremely reassuring that the clinic has called you and said that it looks benign - this sounds very reassuring but I can understand why it has left you wondering why you need to go back and have more checks. I am not sure why they have asked you to come back - perhaps you could ring them and try and find out whether they want to repeat the sample and what kind of tests you are being called back for? I hope that they will be able to reassure you and that you will also hear from other members of our community who have been in a similar position before and that they will share their personal experience with you.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 and you can ring them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer your questions on this.

It does sound like positive news though so fingers crossed this gets confirmed very soon!

    Best wishes,

  • Whilst a little bit rattling for yourself, a belts and braces approach is never a bad thing. They probably just want to make doubly sure they have done this thoroughly before sending you on your way. Some people get brushed off, something is missed, and get let down, but it sounds like you have an excellent team of doctors looking out for you.

  • Update: due back in 7th October. I have now had a letter through that reads the biopsies show 'no worrying features' but 'we should review you once more in clinic +/- and ultrasound scan of this area'.

Does that mean anything to anyone? What is the +/-?

I'm really just wanting to mentally prepare if there is likely to be another biopsy. The Dr was struggling to get the samples, so I'm half expecting it.

I think my greater concern is that they struggled to get the sample and might have missed something. Feels so silly to worry about that though!
