Gathering personal evidence that prostate cancer hormone therapy can reduce size of enlarged prostate

Hi

I am new to the community and would appreciate if there are personal evidence that being on prostate cancer hormone therapy can reduce the size of an enlarged prostate and thereby reducing painful urination.

Worst,  if doctor recommends TURP when the hormone therapy is reducing painful urination.

Many thanks.

  • Hi Pchinny, and welcome to the forum, hormone therapy HT can reduce the size of prostate, mine was 90mm at diagnosis and had shrunk to 80mm my the time I had my TURP. I cant say the HT helped with my peeing as I was on alpha blockers to help me with that, which I know they helped as the difference just a few hours after starting them was obvious. I don't know if you will have a TURP, very few do and it's a short operation, mine was done with an epidural, 3 days in hospital then home, best wishes.

  • Hi Eddie

I have been on alpha blocker Tamsulosin for years and it helped my peeing. But recently it did not work,  ,causing me a lot if pain. Then  about 3 ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I found with Tamsulosin and hormone therapy, my peeing got back to normal, ie no pain.

I was just checking to find out  if it was just wishful thinking. Thanks for informing me that hormone therapy did shrink the enlarged prostate.

    Many thanks.
