  • I'm being told by the hospital that the MDT will hopefully discuss my case on Friday, and that they have results back from biopsies, CT and MRI.

So I guess I should be having discussions soon about the exact diagnosis and treatment plan? Does that sound right?

I'm so scared it will be bad news and/or very complex and that it has spread.

  • Morning yeah they have they're meeting and then you will go in to see the plan , through the last 6 months that was the worst time for me I had panic attacks that I'd never experienced before , its the not knowing , once you've had the meeting you will know the plan then focus on getting on with it , you can only try to think the best which I know is hard ! Sending love hope all goes ok xx

  • Hi James, it is a worrying time but once they tell you what your dealing with and their plan you will be able to focus on that. Try and stay positive and know you will get through this. I can honestly say going into 3rd chemotherapy round tomorrow isn't nice but knowing there are only 3 to go keeps me focused. Stay strong. Xx

  • Thank you both so much.

I admire your strength and wisdom and am so grateful that you share it here.

I really hope that you are doing well. months seems an age, Beaumont! And, Willow, I hope the chemo goes as well as it can and isn't too debilitating. Let us know how you get on.

I've been up and down emotionally and think I'm in a bit of a dark place, fearing the more detailed news and next steps. So long as they can treat and cure, which is what they originally said and what you all seem to be experiencing, I hope I can get myself prepared for the rigours of getting well again.

  • Hi James. I don’t want to give you false hope but they basically told me I had cancer when I had my colonoscopy. I was expecting to be discussed at the MDT meeting but wasn’t as the scans and biopsies showed no signs of cancer. I have since had 3 pre-cancerous polyps removed and need to go back in 3 years. Hoping you have a similar outcome

  • Hi Cam, and everyone.

Just realised I didn't post on here, post-MDT.

I hope you're all doing OK.

So, the cancer nurse phoned me post-MDT. The short version: no signs of any spread to other organs (which is a relief); tumour is adenocarcinoma (which I'm told is the most common, and that's good); they think a couple of lymphs (I think?) Look a little enlarged, so they want to do  PET scan next to decide whether to go straight to surgery or do some oncology first as they're close to the tumour).

So, overall, fairly good news, in the grand scheme of things, I think.

I'm sure I'll be having more detailed discussions with the hospital soon, and am lucky to have an option for a 2nd opinion.

I don't know enough about it, as I don't want to go down Google rabbitholes and scare myself, but I would imagine chemo/radio/immuno would make sense to reduce tumour size, pre-op, and reduce the likelihood of needing a stoma. Does that sound right? They seem to be leaning towards surgery first and I'm worried about stoma (whilst still overall being relieved they're confident of effective treatment, and looking like no spread)

  • Hi James your story almost mirrors mine , I had 4 cycles chemo then surgery , the stoma was my worst nightmare but thank god by some miracle I got away with it ! Although it was nailed on I would end up with one , but that's not something at this point you need to think about I know I didn't, I just put that to bk of my mind and focused on the chemo, hope all goes well will be thinking of you xx

  • Hi Beaumont, Nic and all

I hope that your daughter's scans come back with good news, Nic.

I have my PET scan on Wednesday. They've said they'll try to get results back quickly. Doubt it'll be this Friday, so I guess next.

Then they decide about chemo or similar or straight to surgery. Hoping I can keep mirroring you, Beaumont, and end up with no bag, but am worried about that in my case

I know I should be glad that it's all happening quite quickly for me. From colonoscopy, mei, ct, MDT meeting and feedback, and next PET all in 23 days. But the speed of it all is scaring me. I'm trying to tell myself it's brining me closer to treatment and cure, but I'm also so scared about it being life changing in so many ways. I'm both grateful and blessed whilst also being fearful.
