I just wanted to say we are thinking of you during this stressful time. I guess the MDT meeting was today and I hope that you get an appointment soon to find out exactly what is going on. It's completely normal to be scared when dealing with all this uncertainty at the moment and after having been through all these tests. 

Let us know what you find out - you are not alone though and many members of our community have been through this before and will hopefully come and say hello soon and share their stories with you. While you are waiting, as there is nothing harder than waiting for a diagnosis, I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for news.

Hi I got diagnosed with rectal cancer on 14th of August, I have oncologist meeting on weds this week to find out the treatment plan of chemo then surgery as I understand so far , im scared but positive , the doctor sounded positive its not spread anywhere , I keep reading of people with stoma and its something I know nothing about and scares me , thanks for listening. 

We found out yesterday that my daughter’s cancer is stage 3 has moved to nearby lymph nodes, waiting for an appointment with the oncologist to discuss chemotherapy she and I are gutted. It’s so unfair she is going through this. Xx

Hi , I'm sorry to hear that , really hope you can both feel a bit better when you get more info and a plan so hard , I've had first chemo through canula was at hospital about 3 hrs , the drip took 2 hrs , feel fine apart from tingly hands and hand a bit sore , I came home with a big bag of tabs , mouthwash and cream if I get dry skin, I take 4 tablets tonight, then 2 lots of 4 for nxt 2 wks , also got steroids for nxt 3 days , and anti sick tabs incase ! I feel I'm laid here waiting for a side effect , very weird feeling but it's the first day to getting better , im thinking about you both and I look forward to hearing when you start treatment as it does feel like I'm getting somewhere now ..take care xx

Hi I'm ok thankyou , my hand is still quite sore , I might ring a nurse see if that is normal , get a bit anxious taking tablets but so far feel fine , how are you and your daughter ? When is your next appt ? Xx

If im honest not great , ended up in hospital with chest pain , taking the tablets 4 twice a day is giving me anxiety i dread it and struggle to eat before them , but spoke to a few and it's quite common , not feeling too bad today tho , let me know how today goes for you both sending love xx

My daughter had her appointment with her oncologist who has said the cancer has not spread to lymph nodes but they can see a small nodule in her bowel.  She will have 3 months of aggressive chemo through a portal under her chest.will be 2 weeks in then 1 week off.  Going to be hard for her especially with a 3 year old. X

That is alot for you all to take in , when I went to hospital last fri for my first chemo I had a girl nxt to me 33 with 3 young kids and a disabled husband and she was so upbeat and chatty bless her while going through chemo and radiotherapy , im on another chat too and one lady said to remember it's only temporary which I've tried to take on board, how has your daughter taken the appt today ? When will her treatment start ? Its good it's not spread xx

She is positive her oncologist has made a decision to tackle this in a way they would not normally do.  Mainly down to her age.  She is the first person her age she has ever treated for this type of cancer.  Hope it works x

So it sounds like because she's young they are going to blast it quickly , which is good rather than drawn out , they def know what they are on with , I keep saying we have no other choice than to get on with it even tho it's the hardest situation, my friends keep saying I will look bk in 6 months and it will be a distant memory ! I've had a good day today so I'm going to focus on that for tomorrow...we will get through this xx

Yes deffo sooner the better ! My bowel movements are bk to some sort of normal it feels to me that means it's working hopefully , my chemo is thru canula for 2 hrs and then 2 wks of capecitabine tablets , how does your daughters work again? I know you said aggressive chemo xx

Sounds like your treatment is positive.  She is having a port fitted on her chest where the chemo goes into.  I believe it’s 2 weeks 2 days a week then she has a week off, this will be for 3 months x she is at the hospital now for more bloods and a face ti face chat about the port being fitted x
