Indeterminate Liver Lesion

Hello,

This is my first time posting here, and I'm seeking some words of wisdom or reassurance. Recently, my partner had slightly elevated ALT levels, which led to a routine ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed a 3.2 cm indeterminate, solid lesion on his liver. All his other tests came back normal, and the ultrasound didn't show any other abnormalities. He is now on an urgent two-week referral for additional cross-sectional imaging, with a consultation scheduled for Wednesday, July 24th.

It's also worth noting that he has a fatty liver, but generally, he is very healthy and fit, regularly monitoring his health without any prior concerns. Has anyone had a similar experience? Apologies if this isn't the right place to post, but I am incredibly worried and can't eat or sleep since receiving this news.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Annie,

I'm really sorry to hear that you have another lesion to be investigated. I know how unsettling that can be, but I would hold on to the fact that the doctors are confident this is benign. It's a good thing that you’re having regular checks, as it helps keep everything under control. Stay positive, and hopefully, the results bring some reassurance.

    Take care!

  • Hi Justyna

Thanks, I am ok, it was just a bit of a blow to be in the uncertainty again.  But I trust the doctors that they know what the are looking at, also I know that I am very lucky in the fact that they are monitoring me so closely, for such a long time.

Just got to trust the process!

Hope that you and your partner are doing well.

    Regards

    Annie.

  • oh wow, also sorry you have a "new friend" oddly it does make me feel better that they can just "pop up" and be benign, as my concern was that mine wasnt there [apparently] 11 months ago and they supposedly grow very slowly! My Naturopath did also mention that some lesions are reactive to hormones, and that in late peri-menopause you can have "mega events" of hormone surges which might have literally added fuel to the fire, esp. as i am also taking low dose estrogen. So i am cutting back my estrogen dose just in case that is contributing. Thanks to both of you for replying. I have managed to go for a swim and get a hair cut today with my new chipper attitude!

  • So i had my private pay MRI last week.

Results were sadly still inconclusive, though did suggest mostly like a "resolving hematoma" [even though i have had no recent blunt force trauma to my rib area!] with a differential diagnosis of possibly paracystic cyst [v unlikely] or "purely cystic mucinous at the carcinoma metastasis" , Also didn't look like typical benign cyst or HCC. Get an other scan in 3 months.

Of course i cant guarantee i can GET another scan in 3 months,, current wait lists in public sector are 3-6months. I could pay again myself i suppose, but really don't feel like dropping another $1300 CAD on it. Even if i did, i have no idea how i would then get it sent to a specialist to deal with whatever the heck it is!!

So there that. No real advise on who to do in the interim about pain management, or what will happen if it has changed. No specialist looking at it as far as i know.

    good times.
