  • Hello WRIG and a warm welcome to the forum, PSA prostate specific antigen. the prostate releases antigens which are proteins produced by both normal or sometimes abnormal cells in the prostate, your husbands PSA should be 3-4ng/ml so is a little high, I know how frightening this is to you both but there are a few reasons for a raised PSA. a false positive result which are common, prostate enlargement, prostatitis, infection or exercise/sexual activity just before the test, and also cancer which i know is what your worried about, who wouldn't be. though should it be, him being relatively young and very fit will be a big help, I do hope your husband does not have cancer but if he does remember 98% of men with prostate cancer will not die of it, If I can help in any way please ask, best wishes to you both. PS i have prostate cancer
