Raised CA125 results

Hi

i I know there was at least one post created of this nature a couple of years ago but here goes.

im 34 years old have 2 kids, have always had fairly heavy periods where I pass clots etc and was told when I had scans when expecting my children (my kids are 7 and 4) that I had uterine fibroids.

anyway fast forward the past couple of months just before or just after my periods I have been left with urinarry symptoms or some sort of tummy issues like bloating or constipation/ a bit of lower back pain so I consulted my dr and they ran a full set of bloods and I have CA125 of 49 of course I see that and I’m absolutely beside myself. I’ve got a trans vaginal and an external ultrasound next month.

im trying to be positive im trying to remember that not just cancer brings C-A125 levels up but I’m so scared.

has anyone else experienced similar or the same and it all be ok?

  • Just over a year ago I had the same elevated ca125 bloating and elevated fit test ,I got a call from my GP Office to say it could be Ovarian Cancer I just burst out crying in the garden at the time I was terrified ,anyway went to hospital and had ultrasound from there taken to Consultant  then told  I needed a Hysteroscopy which they did there and then ,they took biopsies and polyps ,afterwards she said she couldn't see anything nasty but to wait for the biopsy results which came  2 weeks later telling me no cancer just Diverticulitis fibroids and something else ,they will have told you there could be many reasons for raised ca125 ,but its best to get it checked out .

  • Thank you for your reply and I’m glad that it wasn’t anything sinister.

I’m glad I went to the dr and I’m glad I got bloods taken etc. I just want it to be over now and just know what’s going on.

i found this out on Wednesday and had to leave work earlier as I just couldn’t stop crying incase it’s the worst and I’m terrified. I know you know the feeling in that moment.

    we shall see I suppose.

  • Yes I know exactly how you feel especially with the waiting involved ,just keep telling yourself its more likely to be some other reason than what we dread , its a good site this if you feel like chatting anytime to others who may reply to your post .

  • Thank you so much! I came across these threads lastnight and found the answers reassuring.

  • The important thing to remember is that a CA-125 test is NOT a cancer diagnosis but the 35 limit is the cut-off level where further investigation is carried out unless scans or other tests indicate otherwise. If it was under 35 and the symptoms continued then I would be more concerned as it could delay essential treatment if malignancy was present. My wife’s reading was 88 and although it was a shock and all the other scans and tests that she had confirmed what we had suspected, the good news is that she is about to start treatment just before Easter. Additionally, more than 9 out of 10 referrals turn out to be for benign conditions but the worst part about it is the waiting game for the results. However, she was reassured by her GP that her condition whatever the outcome could be treated.

  • Thank you very much for sharing. I wish your wife all the best with her upcoming treatment.
