Doctors referral says suspected breast cancer

I posted earlier about concerns around Pagets / breast cancer and am struggling to not panic. I have just opened up my doctors app to check my referral letter has been sent and the GP has put me on the urgent 2WW but has written, “suspected breast cancer.”

Now I’m extremely stressed. In this a normal thing for them to write for the two week wait ?

This is all so frightening

  • Hi Lynne,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. Do you know what type of breast cancer you have? It is not unusual to forget everything that was said at your consultation, as soon as you leave your appointment. You can always phone your specialist nurse and ask her to explain everything to you again.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you fare on Thursday. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Sorry Bubbles and everyone, been in a bad place for a week or so. Long story but think maybe a comedown from all the worry and anxiety and mad myself so ill. Im couldn't be more relieved for you Bubbles. It made my day, reading that yesterday as ive been thinking of you all so much. Back at work now and taking it all in ..i do feel very lucky and relieved so not sure why i couldn't snap out if it.

    Xxxx

  • So sorry to hear this Lynne :( can you have someone there with you for the call. Xx

  • Thanks so much Jolamine. I’m going to make an appointment with the dermatologist just to re assure myself that the breast surgeon is correct. I am sure he is but we only one body and my understanding is you can’t tell if it’s Pagets by looking at it, nor by imaging. I’m sure he has vast experience so I’m not going down a rabbit hole but would like another opinion. Thank you xx

  • Thank you Dannii :) It’s hard to relax after so long worrying isn’t it. I hope it gets easier for you. I’m going to make an appointment with dermatology just to finish this process. Determined not to go down the rabbit hole again but understanding is you can’t tell by looking at the type of problem I have as to whether sinister. I’m relieved there isn’t anything to see in the imaging but think I’d be silly to not just confirm from a skin point of view x

  • So sorry I have been completely AWOL, it has been a whirlwind and like living my worst nightmare over and over.
I saw the consultant privately and the 1cm x 0.5cm lump my gp referred me for is in fact 7cm x3cm.  I had mammogram and ultrasound which showed some abnormalities and she urged me to keep my nhs appointment and have a biopsy.
I spent 9 days imaging the worst outcomes. My appointment was this morning and I did not sleep at all last night.
I spent 4 hours in the breast clinic as the scans from the private clinic were not available and they had to track them down. At one point they said without them they wouldn’t do anything today and I broke down.
managed to find them and they were not happy with them so I had another mammogram that is more like a ct scan and gives them a view in slices? Then I had an ultrasound again and she decided to do a core biopsy there and then. They took 3 samples and I wouldn’t stop bleeding all over the bed! Apparently should expect a large bruise now. I felt nothing during it except a bee sting when they put the local in. I now have to wait on pathology in 7-10 days so still in limbo but it’s done now and at least I will get answers

i hope you are doing ok?xx

  • Hope you had good news x

  • Oh goodness Vickie you’ve really been through it! I hope you are ok today and your results come back quickly. Do keep us posted and so sorry you have more stress :(

  • Hope you got on ok Justme xx
