Doctors referral says suspected breast cancer

I posted earlier about concerns around Pagets / breast cancer and am struggling to not panic. I have just opened up my doctors app to check my referral letter has been sent and the GP has put me on the urgent 2WW but has written, “suspected breast cancer.”

Now I’m extremely stressed. In this a normal thing for them to write for the two week wait ?

This is all so frightening

  • Hello Bubbles,

I can completely relate. I have crippling health anxiety. Currently writing this from my bed as I've tried getting up this afternoon and felt so ill from.the anxiety that i decided my bed is my safe place! Ive recently been given an urgent 2 week referral too. I found a lump in one breast which is very painful but wasnt too worried..at the time! As soon as my doctor felt my other breast and found another lump I didn't know i had, I immediately went into shut down mode! Barely eaten in the three days since. Not even thirsty. I feel frozen with fear and imagining all sorts (hair loss, death etc!). Im already scared if death and now i just feel debilitated and desperate. Ive tried borrowing some money to book privately but ironically, they're all closed at the weekend, which has made me feel worse. My mum died of ovarian cancer but no ine else in my family has Cancer history so im trying to calm down but instead my brain is on overdrive.

    Feel so scared and alone.

Im thinking of you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. Hugs x

  • Hi Danni your not alone lovely. I’ve been the same in bed unable to get up. Literally crippled with fear. It’s debilitating isn’t it  I would call them Monday to be asked to go on the cancellation list. I’m going to call back too. Let’s try and help each other get through the wait. I’m so sorry to hear about your mum, the trauma of that won’t help your anxiety either. Sending you so much love xxx

  • Oh my goodness... L Water... Ive had doctors ask me before.. so what do YOU think is wrong? What would YOU like me to do? I always remember being completely stumped when doctors/ consultants ask that! I am so very sorry you've been made to feel like that..again! Im very cross for you. I sincerely don't understand why they speak to you like that at such a distressful time. Your age shouldn't even come into it. Im pleased your partner was there and Im sure they brought some comfort to you when you needed it.

Sending hugs and reach out any time,

    Dannii xx

  • I really feel for you it’s an awful experience anyway and to be treated like that just makes you feel much worse. Please be kind to yourself, your worries are valid and your doing the right thing getting checked out. Xx

  • Hello lovely,

Thank you... I've just come on for the first time in three months too, so that's probably not helping nerves and sickness (ive just started HRT for perimenopause). I can totally understand why you're waiting for your NHS appointment tomorrow. You'll save a lot of money and could maybe even keep it by, incase you feel you need to see someone quickly in the future.

You will be frightened of course! Go with it... Breathing exercises are helpful and stay hydrated.. you have one more night before sime answers. Try your best to keep busy.

    Sending hugs xx

  • So sorry to hear what an awful experience you have had. It’s completely callous to belittle someone who is clearly very worried. It’s so unnecessary and a little bit of kindness goes a long way. All he had to do was say yes I can feel that and not sure what it is so let’s check.

    Hope you’re ok xx

  • I’m due on Friday and that’s why I think I’m being extra hormonal too. Il be thinking of you today and really hope you get the answers. Be kind to yourself and please keep us updated. I’ve been sat with no telly on for hours so going to put it on to distract myself. We need to remember that 8/10 people that go to the clinic are fine. Look at my mum they biopsied and I was absolutely petrified but it was ok. Look at me the voice of reason when I’ve been crying non stop lol xxx

  • Hope you’re ok Dannii, it could be the HRT causing blips in the boobs, how long have you been on it? I’m not doing good today and have left to wait but trying to keep busy x

  • hope you’re ok too NhJ91, so yours is now tomorrow? Try to distract yourself lovely. I keep getting the panic swallow me up but am trying to get on with my day. It doesn’t help with the intrusive thoughts but it does take the time away xx

  • Hey bubbles how you doing? Yeah I got a call from the clinic saying I can come in tomorrow 11am. I cancelled the private one as it seemed silly paying all that money when I had the nhs one the following day. That way I can have everything done in one day. My guts telling me it will all be ok but my heads telling me the most horrific outcomes. I feel sick to my stomach xx

  • So glad you are being seen tomorrow. Hang in there, it’s a horrendous feeling isn’t it. I’ve just chased the NHs who said they will call me to be seen by the 7th March and I will have a mammogram the same day but it doesn’t look like they will tell me the results. I’m going to keep my private appointment for now and see what happens on the day. I am the same as you, feel sick to my stomach and have been looking at stupid things online like chemo and just way in front of where I need to focus - whxih is on today

    so stressful

    stay in touch xx

  • So sorry I have been completely AWOL, it has been a whirlwind and like living my worst nightmare over and over.
I saw the consultant privately and the 1cm x 0.5cm lump my gp referred me for is in fact 7cm x3cm.  I had mammogram and ultrasound which showed some abnormalities and she urged me to keep my nhs appointment and have a biopsy.
I spent 9 days imaging the worst outcomes. My appointment was this morning and I did not sleep at all last night.
I spent 4 hours in the breast clinic as the scans from the private clinic were not available and they had to track them down. At one point they said without them they wouldn’t do anything today and I broke down.
managed to find them and they were not happy with them so I had another mammogram that is more like a ct scan and gives them a view in slices? Then I had an ultrasound again and she decided to do a core biopsy there and then. They took 3 samples and I wouldn’t stop bleeding all over the bed! Apparently should expect a large bruise now. I felt nothing during it except a bee sting when they put the local in. I now have to wait on pathology in 7-10 days so still in limbo but it’s done now and at least I will get answers

i hope you are doing ok?xx

  • Oh goodness Vickie you’ve really been through it! I hope you are ok today and your results come back quickly. Do keep us posted and so sorry you have more stress :(
