worried

Hi, My Dad had a colonoscopy at the weekend which showed 3 polyps. 2 were removed and the 3rd was 50mm and they attempted to remove but it started to bleed so left it. We were told the polyps look benign but there would be a meeting about the 3rd to see what to do. Since then he has been contacted by the hospital and now has a CT and MRI booked for this weekend. When I have asked why I am told the consultant has requested. We have not been told it is cancer and I am worried sick as is my Dad. Would they have to say they suspect cancer and this is why they are doing further tests or is it likely they are doing further tests to see what to do with the remaining polyp. We were told we would not receive results until after Christmas from the biopsy. We left the colonoscopy appointment relieved but now this is all happening.

  • Meant to put that the polyps were found in his lower bowel.

  • Hello Shazza51,

I can imagine this is a really stressful time for you with all this happening so close to Christmas. I just wanted to wish your dad the best of luck for the CT scan and MRI and I hope that these additional tests will shed some light on what is going on. It may well be they are trying to figure out what to do with the remaining polyp as they were unable to remove it - I hope that you find out soon what the meeting was about and what was discussed. Waiting for biopsy results can be stressful and it's really bad luck that you won't receive these results until after Christmas. Colonoscopy biopsy results normally take about 2 weeks so it won't be too long hopefully before you get some clarity on the polyps they biopsied and find out what they have agreed to do with the remaining polyp.

I hope that despite the stress and anxiety of waiting for definite answers, you manage to have a nice Christmas with your dad and your loved ones. Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine. Keep us updated when you find out more if you get a chance.

    Best wishes,
