Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts, fibroadenoma or due to hormonal changes. It is a fact that only 20% of all referrals to the breast clinic, turn out to have cancer, so the odds are still in your favour. It is good to hear that your consultant doesn't seem to be too concerned. You probably wouldn't have had a biopsy, if you were a little younger, as younger people are less likely to to have it. However the incidence increases as we approach 40, so it is always more reassuring to make absolutely certain that this is not the case.

I sincerely hope that you get your results through soon and that nothing untoward is found. Even if the worst should happen and it is caught early, it should be perfectly treatable. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of each other. That was 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Although still waiting for results, I received a copy of the letter that has been sent to my GP today. I did feel more reassured. It stated likely fibroadenoma for diagnosis and that after ultrasound "it is confirmed 2cm fibroadenoma". The consultant said again she would call me when results are ready and it will be left alone if it is as she suspects. She gave me the leaflet on fibroadenomas too.
