Waiting on MRI results and terrified of brain tumour

Hi all,

I visited my GP last Monday as I've been experiencing head pain in one area of my head and blurry vision for 6 weeks. It's worse when I lie down, cough and has been waking Me up in the night, so thr Dr refered for a brain scan which i had last Wednesday.

I know there are many reasons for headaches, but the speed the Dr referred me and the fact that they are positional is worrying me. Family has reassured me that if it was a tumour I would probably have results by now, but the radiographer said it would be at least 2 weeks before I here anything, so I don't know what to think !

Has anyone had similar symptoms that turned out to be nothing or know of current MRI results time frames ?

Everyone keeps saying it will be nothing, but my mind is naturally jumping to the worst case scenario, and advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated, thank you x

  • Hello Halfpennylane and welcome, As you are on a cancer forum  i guessed you were worried it may be cancer. Which is perfectly normal. Your family are right regarding MRI's, 2 weeks for results is typical unless there is indication of something that could be serious, also there are are many many conditions with similar symptoms that are far more common. As i am not a doctor i can't tell you what the cause of your pain is, it could even be that you have an eye issue and the blurred vision is causing the headaches. please take care, Eddie

  • Thank you for your reply, that makes me feel much better regarding MRI results. It's always hard to tell with family if they are just trying to make you feel better, so that's reassuring to hear the same advice from you too.

I had my eyes tested a couple of weeks ago before going to the drs as I thought it might be an eye issue, nothing has changed since my last appointment, so all ok there.

I guess I'm just going to have to sit tight for results, it's only been a couple of days so I'm sure I'll hear soon enough. It's a good job I'd Christmas with lots of distractions from ghf kids !

    Many thanks
