So worried about referal

Hello everyone,

I have symptoms of stomach/ovarian cancer. Been referred for gastroscopy. Doctor could feel something on my ovary but seemed less concerned about that. Gastroscopy is urgent referral, scan for ovary standard referral. This was on Friday and I have been tearful all weekend and can’t concentrate on anything. Dreading work today as am all over the place with worry but feel silly as nothing certain yet. Should I tell work? I wfh but am all over the place. Have only mentioned it to one friend so far.  Thank you

  • Hi,

Please do tell work. They can then be flexible with appointments ect.

It's awful waiting for tests and results I'm at the same stage. Try keep busy and to routine as much as possible.

Unfortunately I can't offer anymore advice I have done a thread myself. Someone did say to me there is also helplines you can call and a good idea is to make a note of any questions.

    Wishing you all the best

    Jay

  • Hi,

really hope you got through the day ok

im waiting for urgent referral for bowel and a week seems an eternity - like you, worried sick and swinging wildly across all the emotions …I spoke to my manager and it helped as she is being flexible for me.

I wanted to avoid work as I can’t seem to think of anything but this, but it helps to have some almost- distraction to focus on, if you can. My GP brother said to try to keep going as normal - the specialists are really good, he says, so try not to overthink.

have you tried calling one of the nurses on this chat freephone? I haven’t yet but it might help if you don’t feel comfortable talking to friends much.

Fingers crossed for you - you are not alone, even if it feels impossible try to take each day as it comes  :) lots of positive vibes to you x

  • Thank you for replying. I have told work and warned them my concentration might not be great. It did feel better having told them. I hope you get your tests and answers soon. I will watch for your news.

  • Thank you for replying. I have also tried to keep going as much as possible at work. I was watching Morning Live and a guy on there had a really complex condition that took a while to diagnose and he said the waiting was definitely the worst part.

Sending love and hugs and wishing you well, hope you get your referral soon x
