Hospital Fast track referral for suspected lower GI cancer

Hey!

I’m 24, F with FH of bowel cancer (mum passed from it 4 years’ ago). I’ve been having stomach problems for around 10 years now (suspected IBD) but after recent positive FIT test, I received a referral to the colorectal team. Does anyone have any experience with this? What should I expect at the meeting? There’s no diagnosis - but I presume tests will be ordered with time (colonoscopy, ect). Feeling a little anxious right now. Thank you!

  • Hi Bilingualqueen,

I can understand your concerns and I know that the waiting for appointments and dealing with uncertainty is never easy.

There is some information on our website here about referral to a specialist. From that page you can also see related links about possible tests that may follow.

I hope that it's not too long to wait for your appointment. In the meantime, if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi I had a positive fit test last year and was referred on the 2 week wait ,I got an appointment for a colonoscopy within the 2 weeks ,before that I had to go to the hospital to have explained to me what would happen to collect the preparation and a timetable of when to take it and whether I wanted to have sedation ,a few days later at my appointment it was fine I never felt a thing and they told me everything looked fine but that I had Diverticulitis and piles which had caused the elevated fit test ,so I was referred back to my GP .
