Waiting for first apt

Hi all, just after some info, feedback, advice. All the normal reasons for being here.
I will give the me basics.
I’m 46, have breast implants (no issues) and nipple piercings (bars if relevant)

Heres the story..

I have recently discovered a hard vein like thread on the underside of breast which I can track through areola to nipple (not at nipple tip but stops behind it). It is palpable and just below the skin surface, I cannot say for sure if it moves. It’s not squishy or round or smooth, it’s long like a vein.
It was discovered when my 11yr old gave me a hug and he bumped it, it felt weird then sore, kind of stung a bit. Naturally I got to google like everyone does.

Initially I suspected hormonal or fibrocystic changes so waited 3 weeks to see if any natural changes that would support my thoughts but it feels too hard for that, so I made a GP apt and got the 2 week referral.

Then I came across Mondors disease. I’m cautiously thinking it could be Mondors but I don’t currently have the redness or red line, nor do I have the indentation, there is no bleeding or oozing of any kind.

so I guess I’m just here to see if anyone else has had something similar and naturally some reassurance with honesty.

  • Hello Mrsbaker

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about your breast health recently. It's good to know that you've already been to see your GP and that they've referred you to the specialist breast clinic.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before you have an appointment and the team will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

In the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and reassurance they can.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Mrs Baker,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your concerns, but you have done the right thing by getting your symptoms investigated. My initial advice is to steer clear of google. Much of the information there is aimed at the more spectacular cases and these just serve to scare us, without giving us any concrete answers.  When you attend the breast clinic you will have a physical examination by the consultant and may then be sent for a mammogram, an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy. If you have a biopsy, it could take another 1-2 weeks to get your results. It is the biopsy results which determine whether or not there is any cancer present.

Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be cysts or due to fibrous or hormonal changes. It is a fact that only 20% of people who attend the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
