Further uncertainty after breast clinic appointment

Hi all. I’ve been looking over this forum for the last 8 months due to a scare in January and have found myself back again.

I found a lump in 6 weeks ago. Saw GP 2 weeks ago and put on 2ww referral. Saw consultant today who felt ‘abnormality’. Had an ultrasound as I’m just over a week until I’m 40. The doctor found 2 areas of concern and suspicious areas. Was sent for mammogram. Back into ultrasound and then core biopsies. Saw consultant again after that. He said there was 2 areas of concern and they need to have a look under the microscope to see if benign or malignant. After reading lots of posts on here, I was given the impression that if they did suspect cancer then the doctors would say before receiving the results but I asked them, if they thought a patient had cancer would they tell them before the results and I was told no they wouldn’t. He did say we need to get the results and take it from there.

I couldn’t help but feel his manner had changed from very matter of fact when I first arrived at the clinic to showing empathy at the meeting before I left. Am I reading into things too much?

has anyone had a similar experience and it’s turned out to be malignant and viva versa, also benign?

I will receive a call on Thursday next week (the day before my 40th birthday) with the results. If it is malignant would it be likely to be in touch with me earlier?

Sorry for the multiple questions. Heads spinning.

thanks xx

  • Hi Lofty,

When I had my ultrasound, mammograms etc, they didn’t give me any indication as to whether they suspected cancer or not. I was just called to make an appointment for the results about ten days later. Having said that, between that phone call and the results, they then booked me in for an MRI, so it was pretty obvious then that it was malignant.

I really hope that you have a good outcome from your tests. Wishing you lots of love and luck for whatever lies ahead xx

  • Sorry to hear about your diagnosis   I hope things can be sorted for you and you’re feeling ok. Did you receive a call or letter to book in for MRI and how soon after clinic appointment was this? Lay here wide awake at 4am. Xx

so lovely you had flowers , just wait till you have your op your house will be full mine was like a flower shop so lovely of people thinking of us , but since then I can’t have a fresh flower in my house lol it just reminds me of that time of my life isn’t it strange how things work like that xx hope you have a great weekend do spoil yourself now it’s you time for next few weeks lovely xx

  • Yes- usually I can’t wait to get away from work, but I’ve preferred to be there the last week or so. Definitely one day at a time - I find that hard though, as I’m always looking and planning ahead.

Yes- I have some lovely friends that are trying to be supportive. I know it’s hard for people as my diagnosis has been a shock for them and they don’t know what to say.

No- I haven’t had any colds or anything. As for being run down- I often feel run down. It’s the nature of my job and the long hours I work. So if I feel tired or a bit run down, that’s quite normal and I think nothing if it xx

  • I can’t remember the last time I had so many flowers! It feels a bit odd as I haven’t even had the op, but it’s really lovely that people are thinking of me.
I’ve got a fairly busy weekend- partly because I need to buy various things like front-fastening clothes etc, which aren’t what I’d usually wear. Trying to get everything sorted at home- cleaning, washing etc done. Strange to think I won’t be doing any of it for a while xx

  • Yes it’s a strange feeling , but you no what once it’s done you gunna feel so much better and you deffo cope , I was meant to not hoover not do this and that I sat for a day and thought I can’t sit no more and carried on doing everything naughty I no but that’s me I can’t help it I’d wait for hubby to pop out and I’d be cleaning xxx

If you do have a drain don’t let it stop you going out they gave me a small bag with long handles that I wore under a dress you could boot see it I was out and about with drain under my dress I was out for meals and everything every day just not to get bored x

  • Haha- I’ll see how I feel. I’m definitely not the sort of person who enjoys sitting around xx

  • I know I will have a drain, so hopefully I will be able to hide it under clothes too and go out if I want to. I’ve been told not to drive for 2 weeks, but even to go out for a walk from home would be nice, I go out for a walk every day and I hate being stuck indoors x

  • Yes the driving killed ne , but I made sure I put my make up on done my hair Lippy on and out the door dressed up just makes me feel better I can’t sit in pjs I’m not made that way , I went out for lunch or dinner most days as this made me feel human xx

  • Love that Lara. Don’t let the C define you. Obviously I’m not in your situation  but I’m thinking this has to be the very worst bit for you. This time next week, you’ll hopefully be in a better place and moving forward. Xx

  • Yes lofty lol

it had to be done when my Lippy is on I’m happy no way was any diagnosis getting me , still to this day I look back and think did that teakky happen I ignored what was happening to be honest and it worked for me xxx
