Positive FIT of 24

I had an FIT test (the poop sample) last week and on my patient record it says, should I worry about my FIT of 24?? I'm very scared of my doctor's appointment on Thursday. I know it's very unlikely that it is cancer. I don't know if it is related but recently diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia and am currently on Ferrous Fumarate. Any advice would really help me calm my nerves.

  • I don’t know if this is any help sunsetDawn, my husband had a blood test, low iron was found and anemia so a FIT test was done, came back at 63 that’s still not very high but obviously had to have a colonoscopy as it above 10, (and he’s 80 year old) he had that yesterday, 6 polyps was found and took off, they said they all look fine even the 18mm one. Obviously gets sent for biopsy. Hope this helps a bit xx

  • Thank you, it does help. Will i need a colonoscopy no matter what??? Xxx

  • You probably shouldn't be too worried. 24 isn't all that high and while I am no expert here and could be wrong, I think cancer is more likely with very high results, like in the hundreds.

As you probably know, many things can cause blood in stool and cancer is nowhere near the most likely.

I know even a small chance of cancer is really worrying though.

  • I’m not so sure SunsetDawn it may depend on your age! bit according to NICE guidelines it should be anything over 10. I hope someone else can help you and it’s not long till Thursday where you can ask these questions if you’re not told first. Come back and let us know how you get on and good luck xx
