CT Scan after Clear Colonoscopy Picked Up Enlarged Uterus

Hello, I’m new to the group,

Could someone please let me know if you’ve been through anything similar?

For weeks I had blood in my stool, so I eventually went to see my GP who asked me to do a Fit Test and he also took bloods. My Fit was positive and my bloods showed that I was B12 anaemic which explained my fatigue. I was sent on a 2WW colonoscopy referral (took Plenvu and it was vile!!). My colonoscopy came back clear and the 6 biopsies she took showed no change in cells which was great news.

She advised she wanted to send me for a CT scan to see if anything else was going on as my abdomen was swelled.  A week after my scan the colorectal consultant rang to say all was good from his side but I do have gallstones and an enlarged uterus of which he was referring me to gynaecology for. He told me the wait might be up to 14 weeks as that department was extra busy.

1 week later (last week) the booking office rang saying they’d received my CT scan and could I come in next Thursday for a colposcopy. I’m clearly worried as they have booked me in quite quickly. The colorectal consultant would tell me what he thought had caused it as it’s not his area of expertise.

I have no vaginal bleeding as I am on the contraceptive pill where you don’t take a break so haven’t had a period in years. I’m 53 in November so don’t even know if I’m peri menopausal at the moment…..

Normally you’d have a colposcopy first then a CT scan so I’m the other way round. Do you think they’ve found something serious or am I worrying over nothing? Thank you

  • I also forgot to say that my abdomen now makes me look at least 7 months pregnant and the pelvic/abdominal pain is horrendous. I can’t eat a full meal either as I feel full really quickly. Peeing for England too…..

  • Hello MichelleJayne

I'm sorry to hear about the health problems that you've had recently and that you're now waiting for an appointment with the gynaecology team later this week. It's perfectly understandable that you're feeling anxious especially as things seem to have moved along quite quickly.

It's impossible for us to say why you've been asked to come in for a colposcopy appointment much sooner than you'd anticipated. Hopefully as you've already had some tests done the team will be in a position to answer some of your questions when you see them for the first time this week.

If you think it might help to talk things through with one of our nurses before you see the specialist you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and information they can along with helping you think about any questions you might want to ask the Consultant. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Will be thinking of you. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
