Breast dimple/dent need advice

Hi, so I am 28 & had a baby 7mo ago, didn’t breastfeed. I’ve recently been more anxious about breast cancer. The other day I noticed that when lifted my arm my left breast (only in very certain lighting) was dimpling / dent in one or two areas on the underside. Needless to say I am freaking out and crying every day. Breast clinic appt this Tuesday. No distinct lump under or around that can be felt. Has anyone had any experience of this or benign stories? I can’t function :(

  • Health anx

    good luck for tomorrow xx

  • Thanks guys a lot! A quick update & thanks so much for well wishes xx I had my consultation today with a man doing it years and years & he wasn’t concerned at all - did examination and couldn’t feel any lump and didn’t think the dimple was concerning either but something about where my breast is sitting in my chest/ribs, but for my own peace of mind ordered US scan for a couple of weeks away to confirm what he’s thinking himself he said, so all in all it was positive, will update when I get my ultrasound appt etc hopefully won’t be too long to wait, I’m paying private so I’d say within the month fingers crossed xx

  • Hi Healthanx,

    Many thanks for the update.

I'm glad to hear that your consultant wasn't concerned. Despite this, it is helpful that he has still ordered an ultrasound. I am sure that you will feel better to have this done, if only for your own peace of mind. I have everything crossed for your next update and hope that the outcome remains the same.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hey, I have the same as you’ve described and have my app at the breast clinic tomorrow. Just wondering it you have an update? I’m so worried!

  • Hi Louise,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you too are in this unenviable situation. I haven't heard from Healthanx since her last post. Hopefully, she'll see your question and reply to you. In the meantime, there have been 2 other posts with good news today. If you look up Lofty and Shunt, their stories might  make you feel more hopeful. It is a fact that not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts, or due to fibrous or hormonal changes. Of all the people attending the breast clinic, only 20% will get a breast cancer diagnosis. The other 80% get the all clear.

Waiting to be seen is always a very anxious time. you do not say what age you are, but younger people are also less likely to get a diagnosis. You'll be glad that your appointment is finally here tomorrow and I hope that you turn out to be one of the lucky ones. You will find the staff at the clinic very understanding and helpful. Is your appointment in the morning or the afternoon?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, thank you!

I’m 26, I noticed in November a very small dimple on the underside of my left breast, it’s only visible when I lift my arm and when I went to the doctors it seemed to have gone back then. Now I’ve noticed it again and gone back to the doctor. Doctor said he couldn’t see anything until I showed a photo, it’s hard to see depending on lighting, he also said he couldn’t feel any lumps, but referred me for my own peace of mind.

Is it possible for dimples to come and go? Can they be normal? It’s in exactly the same place! Im very anxious, and hope to find that it’s nothing!

  • Hi Louise,

It sounds as if your GP is pretty confident that this is nothing to worry about, but it is good that he has referred you for your own peace of mind. It also sounds hopeful that these dimples come and go, but you are just as well to get them checked out. You won't rest easy until you do.

I don't know whether it is possible for them to come and go, but suspect that this can happen depending on how you hold yourself.

I sincerely hope that they don't find anything there tomorrow  and then you can finally relax.

    Kindregards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Louise! Firstly best of luck I have my fingers crossed for you xx secondly I had my ultrasound on both breast and all she could find was fatty or glandular tissue! No abnormalities at all and everything looked healthy. Because I had a baby 8mo ago pregnancy could’ve caused some tissue changes as my boobs lost some elasticity but I was so relieved and definitely was so happy I pushed for the ultrasound! Mine was under my left boob and could only be seen in certain lighting my consultant also couldn’t see until I showed him a video! It’s so so hard I’ve health anxiety so I know this more so than some but try to relax until you’re in there & you know if it’s okay or not, chances are it is normal changes xxx

  • Hi Healthanx,

I'm delighted to hear that your ultrasound showed no abnormalities and you were able to get back to normal family life and enjoying time with your baby.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
