Sinking in breast when lifting arms

I'm originally from the UK but living in Ireland at the moment. I noticed last Thursday when getting out of the shower that when I raised my arm I got a dent appear at the bottom of my left breast.

I wasn't sure if I was seeing things so I asked my partner on Saturday if he could see it as well. When he said he could, I went in to panic mode.

Unfortunately the health care is shot in Ireland and we haven't got a GP so I had to go and see an out of house on call doctor. Luckily I was seen that afternoon (Saturday) and I was seen by a doctor and a nurse. Both got me to raise my arm and immediately said, yes you need to be seen.

We spent the best part of Monday calling clinics in Ireland that will accept a letter from an out of hours doctors and luckily found one to be told that the wait is 6 weeks unless the nurses deem it necessary to bring you in early.

A letter arrived yesterday asking me to go for my appointment next Thursday and now I'm not sure how to feel. Happy I don't have to wait but also scared they feel I need to be seen. I've had a right wobble today.

How does everyone else deal with waiting. Has anyone got puckering as well?

  • Best of luck and let us know fingers crossed xx

  • Hi everyone, thanks for the wishes for today.

Bad news I’m afraid, so they say I have stage 2A breast cancer but still awaiting my receptor results, they got me in now though because I go on holiday next week and need me to do do a pre op assessment. They have provisionally booked me in for a lumpectomy on 12th Oct 2 days after I get back from holiday (although that depends on the receptor results). They will also do a nipple biopsy (as the lump is really close) and take out 2 nodes to check. So that’s where I am at the minute :( xxx

  • Lebell,

I'm so sorry to hear that it’s not the news you were  hoping for. This must feel really shocking for you and so much for you to take in. Please look after yourself during this emotionally draining time and please know that we are all here for you and you have friends in us in this chat forum. The good thing is that you were aware of the symptoms and took the correct action by seeing your gp and attending your referral. You’re now in the hands of the experts who are going to treat this and look after you. You’ve got this! Please reach out if you need us.

    sending love and hugs

    xx

  • Lebell,

I’m so sorry to hear that the results weren’t what you were hoping for- it must be a real shock, and so much to take in. The good news is that you recognised something wasn’t right and are now on route to getting it sorted out. I’m sure you are in the best hands. We are all here for you if/ when you want to chat. Lots of love - please spend time doing lovely things for yourself this weekend xxx

  • Lebell, I'm absolutely gutted to hear this. I was really hoping you were going to get the best news right before your holiday. Are they expecting the receptor results while you're away or possibly before you go? Sending you all my love, hugs and strength right now xx

  • Hi Bobbins,

thank you, I think I new deep down it was cancer suppose I was trying to think positive and that what they said at my referral was wrong.

they are hoping to have my receptor results early next week, then I’ll be in Wed or thurs for a pre op assessment (providing the results are in I suppose. My breast care nurse is going to ring me on Tuesday after the next MDT meeting xxx

  • Hi Lebell,

This is not the news that any of us wanted to hear. Did they say what type of breast cancer it is? No matter how much you were expecting this, it still comes as a shock. I have been through 2 bouts, within a year of each other. If I can help in any way, please let me know. I am 14 years down the line now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. I'm sure that you will too.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. As you know, we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • So sorry with your diagnosis. I was also giving the news last tues , Altho if they told me what stage mine was, I missed that part .but nothing in nodes that they could see on scans at this point .    I am also awaiting receptor results but I did have to go for an MRI 2 days after getting my biopsy results.  So now just waiting for results from them and hopefully get a surgery date x
