Colonoscopy

Hi,Id just like to share my experiences that ive been through over the last few weeks for the benefit of people who are going through the same thing.
I had a fit test done as my iron is none existent. It took about a week for the results to come back. I had a telephone appointment booked with my doctor but it got cancelled, then I was asked to go and see my doctor the next day. Everyone in the surgery was being exceptionally nice and then I found out why. My fit score has come back and it is extremely high. Then silence…..my doctors face said everything. I have bowel cancer. Then the tears came. Both the doctor and I were in tears. She confirmed what I had been dreading. I told my family and my sister didn’t believe me. That was a kick in the teeth. All because I hadn’t had a colonoscopy to confirm it. So I get a very quick appointment for the colonoscopy. The pack comes through the post with a drink that I know is not going to be very nice. I had the movie prep and my abdomen swelled up so much I looked 9 months pregnant! No bowel movement at all. The only way I can describe it is that my bowel was paralysed. So my first appointment had to be cancelled. Second appointment had to be cancelled due to plenvu doing exactly the same. Third appointment is on Friday and I’ve got Piccolax this time. I know it won’t work but I’m going to the appointment at 10.00 and I’m not leaving till someone does something. This has been going on for nearly 2 months now. I’m scared that the cancer is growing and there might be nothing they can do to help me.
Thank you all for listening to me going on but it sure helps knowing I can vent on here.

  • Hi, how high was you FIT test result if you don't mind me asking? As mine is 400 I got my results 2 days later as my GP phoned but didn't say it was definitely bowel cancer just said she needs to urgently refer me for a Colonoscopy which I have got a phone appointment this Thursday 14th with a specialist nurse. I have also had other symptoms such as bleeding when wipe, blood in stools, feeling very tired and exhausted all the time

  • I forgot to ask how high it was as I was in shock but I want to find out. I will let you know when I speak to my doctor.
I had other symptoms like when I wiped I could see the blood and a change in bowel movements. I am tired all of the time. I wake up feeling exhausted. Good luck with your appointment on Thursday.

  • I agree with Jenny. From what I have heard, the colonoscopy would confirm a diagnosis, but I didn't think there would be a diagnosis solely based on the FIT.
