Endometrial cancer

Hi,just be glad of any info or advice concerning endometrial cancer.

I'm in my very late 50s,finished my periods two and a half years ago.

Had a very unexpected and heavy period lasting five days.

Was referred for a scan and told my endometrial lining was 5mm,

I then had to have a vaginal scan which confirmed that the lining was 5mm.

My GP wasn't unduly concerned but gynae nurse insisted they arrange for me to have a hystercopy,

thankfully I'm having that with a general anaesthetic within this next month.

I'm just wondering if this is a fuss over nothing?

From what I've read a 5 mm lining is not particularly severe?

I'm tempted just to cancel the appointment when it comes through.

It's been a rough few weeks with a whole series of tests not to mention two bouts of shingles,

I'd just like to put the whole thing behind me.

Thank you.

  • If you are post menopausal they will always further  investigate if lining is over 4mm and there has been bleeding..I had this PMB in 2019, scan, then a biopsy which was clear then hysteroscopy where polyps were found, had to be removed with a general due to position, all clear.

Fast forward to Jan 2023 and it happened again, scan (lining 8mm up from 7mm in 2019), hysteroscopy with biopsy taken, womb lining clear, but polyps found, back in to have them removed under the Myo ure procedure so I was awake but BP too high, so sent home, BP sorted and hack again for polyp removal with Myosure, this time they found atypia hyperplasia in one of the polyps, that’s pre cancerous cells, recommended treatment was a hysterectomy because it can turn into full cancer and there is a 40% chance that cancer will still be found once womb etc sent off for biopsy.

Got a cancellation for hysterectomy in June but my blood sugars were too high so sent home and told to have op in September to give me time to get blood sugar down and in the meantime I had a mirena coil put in and another womb biopsy taken, that was normal.

I had my hysterectomy on Monday and came home on Tuesday and am now taking it easy at home, although I look like I’m having triplets!

So, whilst they can tell you everything looks ok, they can’t be 100% until they have taken biopsies…I was told at all of my hysteroscopies that everything looked ok but cells only show up under a microscope.

Hoping everything turns out good for you x

  • I hope you recover soon,you have been through a lot .

I am having a hystercopy, biopsy and smear( have tried three times to do a smear and not enough cells each time).

I've been told that biopsy results can take 5 weeks though I would imagine those patients with cancer take preference.

Thankfully I haven't had a bleed since August though continue having period type cramps on a daily basis.

  • Nobody takes preference, my first biopsies in 2019 were back in 2/3 weeks, this year the first lot were back after 2 weeks but the results with the hyperplasia took over 5 weeks and I was tearing my hair out! Last womb biopsy took over 4 weeks, guess it depends how busy the labs are, my hysterectomy results I’m not expecting for around 5/6 weeks as there is a lot to dissect.

  • I came home looking like I’m expecting triplets ! Hoping everything will settle down soon

  • Thank you for telling me this,

I would have been assuming if I didn't hear from them fairly quickly that all was fine.

It's better to be informed and prepared so thanks again
