Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

  • Morning all

Same as you all went to see doctor on Friday had letter today for breat clinic week today

Is ut normal for appointment to come so fast

I found one lump in right upper side of breast but during doctor exam found a further 2 in arm pit can not get it off my brain and had a melt down friday night

  • Hey Missty,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time with worry.

like others have said, it’s all very normal to receive your referral very quickly. I received a referral review letter in the post the day after my doctors appointment, but then it took a few weeks to get my appointment (due to the waitlist in my area and recent strikes) whereas others received their appointments much quicker than me.

I’m pleased you’ve managed to get an appointment so soon, but please don’t read anything into this.

it’s incredibly hard to focus on anything else when you’re so anxious, but honestly, having a good cry and getting those emotions out are so important. I hope you have a good support network around you - do try and keep yourself busy if you can. Watch a few episodes of something to take your mind off things or take yourself out for a lovely walk somewhere pretty and soak up nature.

Let us know how you get on, we are all here to chat anytime xx

  • Oh no- I’m sorry you’re suffering after the biopsy etc. I’ve still got impressive bruising from the biopsy 2 weeks later, but didn’t have any pain from it. The worst thing about the mammogram was being forced into really awkward positions and I had really sore shoulders and neck for a few days from that.

I did read that I’ll have to sleep on my back for 2 weeks after surgery- I have no idea how that’s going to happen as I just can’t sleep like that. I wake up as soon as I roll onto my back!

  • Hi Ruby

I had a routine mammogram on the 5th September, then a week later discovered a big lump.

I had my mammogram results two days ago and it says that my breasts are symmetrical, (yet they didn't spot the big lump)

My Dr urgently referred me back to the breast clinic as I have significant family history of breast cancer.

She also told me to stop my HRT patches.

I'm frightened, and judging by my Dr's face she's worried too.

  • Hi Snoopydoo,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and I hope that it all goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine, thank you so much for your kindness & support. I have since heard from the hospital who have said they believe that the areas of concern in both breasts is fat necrosis (nothing to worry about) which can appear as hard lumps.

I hope this can provide some positive hope for those that are worried and currently awaiting their appointment at the breast clinic.

My heart goes out to anyone experiencing bad news and remember that I will always be happy to chat & provide support like you have all done for me on this wonderful forum.

all the best lovely people xx

  • Snoopydoo,

Best of luck for today, will be thinking of you

    xx

  • That is great news Sandpiper x

  • Hi Sycamores so sorry that you are finding yourself back in this position again. Once is enough for anyone. So strange that mammogram didn’t pick up lump. Do you have a date yet back at clinic? I cried myself to sleep last night one minute I am ok then the next I am crying such a rollercoaster. I had similar experience at drs where could tell how she acted that she was thinking cancer. So really not looking forward to Thursday. Hope you are okay sending you a virtual hug x

  • I'm at the clinic tomorrow afternoon. I don't think I was positioned far enough in the machine for it to see the lump ( if that makes sense?!)

I'm off to uni in a mo, so I'll take my frustration out on the clay.

    Big hugs to you all

  • Thank you guys! I'm so nervous!!

  • So I had my mammogram and scan. I have three cysts that have made my breast swollen. The doctor said that is going to be my new normal but to keep an eye on skin changes.
