Positive fit test and colonoscopy result.

Hi,Id just like to share my experiences that ive been through over the last few weeks for the benefit of people who are going through the same thing.

Im a 50 year old male and I recently had a fit test result of 16. Not massively over but over nonetheless. Immediately I'm thinking the worse and I was convinced I had bowel cancer. I'd noticed blood whilst wiping on the odd occasion which I'd never seen before. My other symptoms were a change in my toilet habits and occasionally I'd get stomach pains. I'm going to sound like a hypocrite here but stay off Google as it sent me doolally! My anxiety was worsened as well by a work colleague who's recently had bowel cancer but has since made a full recovery.

Just because your fit test is high it doesn't mean you have cancer. It could be lots of things. Believe me I was the world's worst at being anxious to the point that it made me I'll. Share your thoughts with family and this forum helped me as well.

I had my colonoscopy today. They were really nice and helpful and made me feel totally at ease. The pre examination drink was fowl but I split my drinks into quarter measures and had one every 15 minutes, then the other 4 a few hours later. Be warned though, don't stray to far from a toilet. My colonoscopy was ok, I had the sedation and barely felt anything. They found I had internal piles,4 polops that they removed and I also have colitis. Apparently the colitis can cause slight bleeding. It's quite enflamed down there which I now have to take suppositories for the next month to hopefully get it back to normal.

Don't be Afraid it could be anything and you really need to have the colonoscopy to give you the all clear and peace of mind.

Good luck and thank you to the good people on here who helped me.

Take care.

Steve.

  • Hi everybody, I hope everyone's doing ok. Or if anyone has had bad news I hope your on the road to recovery .

  • Hi Steve, yes doing fine thanks, today we went to hospital to see what this cyst on Marts spleen is, they think it’s not related to his lymphoma but another ultrasound in 6 months to see if it’s still growing, so as of now all his other problems are ok and off we fly to Tenerife next month while we have the chance.
I hope everyone else is doing ok and Helen how are you getting on?

  • Hi everyone. Finally got an appointment yesterday after chasing hospital constantly. I'm going into hospital for my CT colon scan on 11/12/23 they will scan all my organs at the same time apparently according to my Consultant that's why he wanted to push for this scan for me. It was rejected initially because im too young (even though I'm 51 in a couple of weeks) so that's a relief the Radiologist finally agreed. But also worries me strangely xx

  • Hi Amanda, good that you’ve at last got an appointment, not long to wait. If it’s the same as my husband had CT scan of the colon (I’ve forgot the proper name) he said was absolutely fine, so I hope it’s the same for you, you obviously don’t get the results there and then though so a bit more waiting. Good luck Xx

I hope everyone else is doing ok, how are you Helen and Sam xx

  • No it's quite quick now thankfully. My GP surgery were getting annoyed with them as I had clearly been forgotten. I don't know the letter calls it a CT Colon scab but I know when I saw the consultant he said they would scan all my organs to see if they could see if there was anything lurking!! Xx

  • Hi Helen how are you doing xx

  • Hiya Amanda, I'm not too bad thank you, only a few days till.my sigmoidoscopy on Monday..I have to follow the same restricted diet and have those awful drinks before it..is hard waiting not knowing if they will.be able to remove things on the day or if I'll have to have surgery booked still xx

  • You having your scan same day as I have my sigmoidoscopy so we'll both fingers crossed have things go well..is really good they finally sorted an appointment and not too long to wait for it either...when I had my CT scan they did the same and scanned all of my torso to.check everything out..was very quick and they said they think good to do them to rule things out but made me worry too why they were doing it...but I am glad now I did have it done xx

  • Hi Sue, yes I didn't get my results there and then but they rang me just over a week later.to say all was OK but did feel a long wait...

I'll.be OK I guess after Monday as been waiting several weeks.now for the sigmoidoscopy and just want it to take place now!!

Hope all good with you? Xx

  • That's really good news you got the holiday booked...how nice to have a holiday in the sun at this time of year!!'x
