Hi everyone. I’ve been reading through your posts and it’s actually reassuring to hear people going through a similar situation, although I’m so sorry to hear that the results haven’t been so positive for all of you.

I went to my GP with breathlessness last month and a blood test showed I was anaemic (haemoglobin 92). So I was sent a fit test and referred for gynae scans. Scan on Saturday found a small polyp in my cervix and FIT test came back on Thursday at 32.6. GP referred me for a colonoscopy and I had my telephone appointment with the colorectal nurse yesterday who said I also need an endoscopy. I’ve been booked in for a colonoscopy on Monday 16th and endoscopy on Saturday 21st. There’s been a lot of helpful advice on here re colonoscopies, but I’ve not see anyone talk about having an endoscopy – has anyone had both due to blood in bowels? It’s all happening very fast (all credit to the NHS), but it’s a lot to get my head around.

Hi Lauralj24, I’m pleased you find this helpful as it’s so scary to start with. I don’t think anyone on this post has had both procedures but I have read of people doing so, someone referred to is as like been on a roasting spit, harsh lol. My husband has had an endoscopy for a different reason, he didn’t have sadation or anything, he was fine but I think if he was to have it again I’d suggest he took what ever was offered. Your FIT test isn’t too high from what I can gather.  My husband started this as he has low iron, his FIT test was 63 which still isn’t very high I don’t think, he had a virtual CTC that found 5 polyps so has to have a colonoscopy on Friday to hopefully remove them. We had a phone call to book him in and nothing more so your lucky you could have a conversation with someone, we do have the moviprep so just waiting for the info in the post, luckily I googled what to do or else it would be very short notice as not received anything yet, have you and what prep are you having?

Hi Sue - that's exactly what I thought about the spit roast!!! That's good to know about your husband's experience - I was hoping not to have the sedation because I'm a single Mum and don't know how long the effects will last or if I'll need some help with my daughter for the rest of the day (she's 4).I thought the same about my FIT test - I've read on here about people's being in the 100s or even 1000s. I was reading about yours and your husband's journey and I have so much admiration for you and your resilience; I can't imagine how it must feel to keep having to go down this road. I hope his colonoscopy goes well on Friday and they're able to successfully remove them all. I had a text from the hospital earlier to say the department is going to contact me directly about the colonoscopy and it won't be going ahead on Monday - I've not heard any more yet, although I'm wondering if they want to wait for the endoscopy first. I'll keep you updated and please let us know how your husband gets on on Friday x

Hello...I've had call from hospital and bad news. They have found cancer in the biopsies..CT scan on Sunday. They will book an appointment I think week after next to tell me what they are going to do..and options..I assume surgery options. Seeing GP later today as I'm all over the place..they don't know if just in polyp as they only took biopsies from it..I am so shocked as I feel perfectly healthy and have no signs of anything other than once or twice having blood x

Oh crikey. I'm sorry about your bad news. You must be all over the place. 

I'll say this though, without trawling back through the thread I'm sure I put on here that a work colleague of mine had bowel cancer earlier in the year. He had 3 polyps removed and unfortunately one was cancerous. To cut a long story short he had surgery and he's now all clear,no chemotherapy or anything. He was off work for about 3 months from start to finish.

I know it's easier to say this as its not me but it can be sorted,he's proof that it can. I really hope you get better soon.

I’m so very sorry Helen it’s something we just don’t want to hear isn’t it, I’ve no words of comfort as I know nothing about bowel cancer but Steve’s post gives us all hope about his friend. There seems so much they can do and so many options, I think that’s one of the problems so much to learn. You say you had no symptoms apart from the high FIT,  that’s the same as Martin only found low iron on a blood test. Helen do keep posting I’m sure it helps. Have you thought about joining Bowel Cancer support on face book, I joined just to try and learn something about it,. Sending you a big HUG Helen and please stay with us all x

I feel so sorry for as she was terrified when she joined the thread and that was before this bad news.

Oh Helen I'm so so sorry I'm not surprised you are all over the place you are bound to be. How did you get on at the GP today. Have they managed to tell you anymore at all. Please keep posting to letvus know how you are. X
