Ca-125 raised? Worried!

Hiya, I’m a 31 year old female, I’ve been suffering with bloating for a while now and the urgency to pee.
i went to the gp on Wednesday who felt my stomach, he couldn’t feel anything abnormal… he did request a ca-125 the results came back at 50? Which apparently is raised. He’s referred me for a scan which I’m guessing is an ultrasound scan?
My anxiety is through the roof, I’ve spoken to people and they say it’s more likely to be fibroids or a cyst? But I can’t help but think it’s ovarian cancer.
would the level be a lot higher if it was something so serious?
Thank you for reading

  • Good to hear your being seen quite quickly.

Thanks for thinking of me, I'm very scared not just of the surgery but what comes after, massive change in a short space of time.

Us women we cope, we have to and I think the main thing is to renain positive not necessarily with the outcome but how we deal with it.

    Xx

  • I had both CT scans and an MRI within 8 days of my initial ultrasound and hysteroscopy appointment after they had found cysts on both ovaries, thickened womb lining and polyps/ fibroids. My largest cyst was 5.5 cm though, so smaller than yours. I was told to expect further imaging scans as soon as they found the cysts so they could get a clear idea of their nature. Mine were benign but I'm being monitored every six months.

  • Hi Leni56, I’m so happy to hear yours were benign and they’re monitoring you. Did you have a raised CA125?

  • No, I don’t have a follow up appointment booked. I just got a call yesterday saying there’s a cancellation available if I want it

  • So I rang the hospital and they’ve booked me in for 4th July, seems like a long wait to me! X

  • My CA125 was not raised but my CA19.9 levels were extremely high (normal is under 35 - mine was 1850, dropped to 650 after polyps removed). Hope all goes well for you

  • All I can advise is to try and keep busy. The whole process seems to be waiting for something or other - appointments, results etc. I was referred for irregular and prolonged bleeding. I had a 2 week wait for the first appointment - ultrasound followed by hysteroscopy. That first appointment triggered urgent blood tests, MRI 3 days later and CT scan the following week and then over 4 week wait for results - cysts were not suspicious and womb biopsies came back normal so I guess I would have heard sooner otherwise

  • Hi, just wanted to check in and see how you are. Hope your appointment went ahead yesterday and you’re feeling ok

  • Hi everyone, just thought I’d post an update. I had my MRI and some additional blood tests done two weeks ago. I didn’t hear anything from the hospital but finally got through to them today. My MRI showed one of the cysts was complex in nature and now I am being referred for a CT.

I’m feeling a bit anxious and wonder if the cyst is cancerous. I thought an MRI can determine that?

  • Hey! I ended up having the scan the day after I was referred. I ended up getting a cancellation luckily! Scan showed a small cyst on my ovarian. Apparently it’s a normal cyst and nothing suspicious so dr said it will probably go away on its own but will do the ca125 test in a couple of months to see if the level has gone down. I’ve just seen your update, at least they are referring you for extra tests. I also thought an mri was more thorough than a ct… I would of thought if they thought it was cancer they would of got you in before. Let us know how you get on x
