Breast referral

Hi!
New here but feeling a tad deflated so wondering if anyone else has had the same experience as me?
I was referred under the 2WW and gp told me I'd have a breast ultrasound (under 30, just) . Unfortunately the appointment offered was when I was on holiday but they sorted me another appointment for the day after I got home! Excellent, today I went to the appointment expecting a scan, but I just had a consultation and someone felt it, noted some stuff down, said she agrees with the GP and there's a area of thickening , and said she'd order a scan within 2 weeks? Is this normal? Just feels horrible having to wait another two weeks for a scan. I know it's probably not cancer, but my partner lost his mum to cancer as a teen so it's a huge fear tbh.

background: I had pain in a certain area of my left breast on and off for a few months but now it's achey constantly and sharp stabbing pains if it's pushed on or touched etc, I wasn't sure if I could feel any lumps because I have sensory issues and honestly, hate touching and feeling gp said she can feel a area of thickening. As did today's specialist. I'm faithful as I know most breast cancers won't cause any pain, but just not having the awnsers and having to wait two more weeks doesn't feel great, does the lack of imediate scan say they aren't worried?
sorry for the long message

  • Hi Smellycat42 and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you now have another 2 week wait before your scan. This must be very frustrating but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have been through this so they'll definitely understand what you're going through at the moment and will hopefully be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Smellycat42 and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there, I'm new here too!

I had my GP appointment on 29th April, and I must say my appointment at the Breast Cllinic came around very quickly on 3rd May. I had an ultrasound there and was told I would be referred for a mammogram in 2 weeks (I'm sure why it was this way round, but hey ho). After 3 weeks I hadn't heard anthing so I gave the clinic a call and they said they had an appointment for a mammogram for me on 9th June, but the letter hadn't gone out yet.

    Roll on next Friday!

Keep me posted how you get on :)

  • Hello lovely

    try not to worry

I was told a thickening at my ultrasound but for me it turned out bad news unfortunately that was last July I'm fully recovered now all treatments finished I did not feel any lump either only a heaviness and just felt something wasn't right but I'm 49

not all lumps and thickening turn out bad .

    good luck love Lara Heart

  • Thank you for the kind words and congratulations on being recovered!

It's just so frustrating I wasn't given a ultrasound on the day when I saw the specialist especially as that's why I thought I was going! I'm only 28 so hopeful it's nothing but my health hasn't been right lately and I just feel like something is wrong? x

  • Best of luck for your appointment! I hope it goes well and at the very least you get awnsers!
my gp said I wouldn't get a mammogram as I'm under 30. Just.
do you mind my asking what your symptoms are? My fingers will be crossed for you on the 9th!

  • Smellycat

yes your age is a good thing its on your dude for sure

mu symptoms were a heaviness my dog jumped on me booby and it hurt when like pushed against no lump to feel just tender and just a sense something wasn't ok

I never ever thought it would have been Bc so lucky I had a check

hipe that helps love Lara Heart

  • Thank you.

I felt a bit of a very mild sensation in my left breast for several weeks and just assumed one of the kids had elbowed me or something, but after about 4 weeks I decided to ask my husband to check if he could feel anything. Any lumps and bumps just felt normal to me, but he said he could feel a lump and I couldn't feel anything where he was saying he could. I made a GP appointment the next day and my doctor too said she could feel a 'fixed' lump in the same place my husband could. I've no idea what 'fixed' lump means.

I'm 41 and my mum was treated for breast cancer after her last routine mammogram last year, aged 70. Since all this started, the niggle I had originally felt, is no more. So we shall wait and see
