First Appointment Tomorrow

Hi all, I found a lump in my left breast last week. I am 36f and this is the first lump I have found. I have found this forum so helpful, so decided to join. The doc said she didn't think it was a sinister lump, and she said if she thought it was, she would say and I believe her. I think based on symptoms it is either fibrocystic or fibroadenoma. At first, I thought the pain was actually a muscle strain, but then it was worse after I was in a car accident in January. When I went to the doc, she is the one who found the lump. It seems like it moves and it gets really quite sore, particularly towards the end of the day. I have also started getting pins and needles in my left arm.

My appointment came round so fast, and I am so grateful. But naturally, I am now starting to worry and panic, but I guess this is normal and expected. I am not sure what I am wanting from posting this, perhaps just to let it all out? I haven't told my Mum yet until we know it is going on as she doesn't need the added worry - she was burgled last week and my Dad passed away just 6 months ago.

I have made a note of any family history, and all symptoms in case I forget any. Thanks for reading, I would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar position.

  • Hi, I'm sorry that you find yourself here after finding a lump and I do hope it turns out to be a cyst or FA. I know it's impossible not to feel scared and worried as I've been there. Just try to keep busy and distracted if you can; going for a nice walk can really help with anxiety and difficulty sleeping, appetite, etc. We're all here for you and hope it's good news for you tomorrow. Amy x

  • Thank you so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to read and reply. I will let you know how it goes xx

  • I hope your appointment goes well. I have a mammogram booked for Friday at 12.00 and I'm not sure how to cope between now and then as I am crippled with anxiety! It will have only been a week since I saw the GP and got an appointment so really quick, but I don't seem to be able to cope with the wait.

I've discovered that if I keep super busy, I'm fine but it is sitting down and working from a computer where fear becomes overwhelming- which is probably how I have just ended up here! Better than Dr Google...

Wishing you all the luck in the world. XXX

  • HI, Neverrainsbutitpours,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

First of all, can I say how sorry I am to hear about your Dad. Second, to hear about your Mum's burglary. You have been through quite a time of it recently. Hopefully your luck's about to change and this will only be a cyst or a fibroadenoma. It is good news that the lump is moveable and painful. Most sinister lumps tend to be fixed and are not usually painful.

The worry and panic are unfortunately, perfectly normal. Irrespective of the outcome, you will feel better once you have a diagnosis. I am glad to hear that your appointment hascome round so quickly and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Pocheen,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Keeping busy is the best way to survive this awful wait. You are far better sticking to the respected sites, like this. Consulting 'Dr Google' will only scare you even further and serve no useful purpose.

You are fortunate that you have got your appointment through so quickly, as some people are waiting up to 3 weeks to be seen. Not all lumps are sinister. Many turn out to be benign lumps or fibroadenoma. It is a fact that out of every 19 who attend the breast clinic, only 2 will get a cancer diagnosis, so the odds are still on your side.

I sincerely hope that all goes well on Friday. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • How long do u normally wait after a recall from a mammogram to the breast screening clinic for biopsy etc

    Thank u

  • Everything crossed for you. I feel you with the anxiety, it is exhausting, isn't it? Let us know how you get on xxx

  • Hi Jolamine, thank you for taking the time to reply to me, it is very much appreciated. It has been an awful few years! Guess why I chose my name neverrainsbutitpours.

Those stats are positively in my favour, so that does help, thank you. You are right though, the waiting is the worst, at least after diagnosis I will know where I stand and what to do. I am very grateful that my appointment is only 8 days after I saw the GP, they don't mess around when it comesd to boobs!

I will indeed update you all xx

  • Hi Wongo,

You normally get an appointment at the breast clinic within 2 weeks from the date of referral. All of the initial tests are usually carried out at your first clinic appointment and it usually takes anything from 1 -3 weeks to get your biopsy results. It is always worth asking when you can expect your results to be back,  at the time of your biopsy.

    Was this your first mammogram?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi everyone, so the diagnosis is... a low placed lymph node! The "lump" was indeed my lymph, but not in the usual place so they GP natuarally thought it was a lump. They scanned me and confirmed that there is indeed no lump there, and just the lymph. A lower lymph is nothing to be concerned about they said, note super common, but not unheard of.

They discharged me and gave me a very useful leaflet about managing breast pain - I will still have to go back to the GP as there is something causing the pain and the pins and needles.

Love and strength to anyone going through the agonising wait, and thank you to everyone who checked in and sent their positive vibes. I am very grateful xx
