MRI booked before biopsy results

Hello, 3 weeks ago I found a change (not a lump) in my right breast so went to my GP, she sent me to the breast clinic and the appointment came through for 1 week later. I had 3 mammograms, an ultrasound and a biopsy. The consultant said at the end of the appointment "it seems to be contained to the breast and not in the lymph glands" and that now they would book me in for an MRI. When I asked if I would have the MRI before I had the biopsy results he said no. I've now had my appointment to see the consultant through for a week today (so from going to my GP to results will only be 4 weeks). The consultant said that there's a 2cm mass that they're concerned about. I'm hoping that if it is cancer that they've caught it early? Any advice or feedback gratefully received!

  • Hi Jodie, coping fine with treatment thanks. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy four weeks ago - it was day surgery and I was up and about day after, yes tired and sore for a few days but honestly not too bad. Back at work this Friday (took Easter off otherwise I'd have been back last week). I do not need chemotherapy (this depends on several things). I will be having radiotherapy, which will last one week. Then five years of hormone therapy (one tablet a day I think). All in all, very manageable at this level of treatment - like Lara the worst bit for me was the waiting for results at the beginning xx

  • Case4 this is really encouraging news again you sound like me in that you're a positive person. The waiting is so hard isn't it, I just want to get on with whatever happens next now. But I've been very lucky having such an amazing GP and from that first GP appointment to results next week will have only taken 4 weeks (although at the moment it feels much longer).

please keep me updated on how you get on, it's so nice to have such lovely people on here who know how it all feels ️ keep being you and thanks so much for replying xx

  • That's a really quick turnaround Jodie, which is great. Yes, the waiting for results is just awful - lot of tears in my house, random weeping and torturing myself with all sorts of scenarios. I know I've actually been very lucky it was picked up when it was xx

  • It's such a rollercoaster isn't it!! I've had my letter through today (following on from my phone call yesterday) and it doesn't state that I need to bring someone with me......should I take that as a good sign or does that not really mean anything?xx

  • Hi Jode79

I had my MRI today, was terrified they were doing it to check for other cancers but they wasn't it was just to check the soft tissues around my eye socket close to where my lump is :-)

  • Hi Jodie, I think most of my appointment letters have said something like I may want to bring someone with me - not sure if that's standard? Yes, a rollercoaster for sure!
