Frightened I have bowel cancer at 31

Just wondering if anyone can help since having my c section and needing 5 rounds of antibiotics I noticed a change in my bowel habit from January I'm going twice a day and my movement is formed but comes away quite easy. At first I thought it was to do with antibiotics but still going on so I went straight to drs who have done stool sample for helibactor pylori and calprotectin and they were normal and bloods were normal. They have also examined my tummy and back passage and didn't feel any masses. However I ordered a bowel screening tool offline not a nhs one one that gives results straight away it was a fob test and it came up positive so I'm absolutely past myself that I have cancer the Dr has said they are sending me out a fit test which is the nhs bowel screening tool which goes to labs but my anxiety is horrendous can anyone help ?

  • I really wish I could have a better mental attitude but I automatically think the worst my mum passed away with cancer not bowel but I think that has a big part to play. One good thing is they tend to tell you there and then at colonoscopy don't they x

  • I'm so sorry about your mum. My dad is one of 11 kids and out of those, 8 died young (late 30's - early 40's) from bowel cancer/ colon cancer. I'm not sure about when results are given. I'm hoping the same day just because hubby will be there and he can hear for himself that I'm ok! My sister had a colonoscopy and had to wait 3 weeks for results, although she wasn't being tested for cancer, so probably a little less urgent in terms of results

  • Hi. It was just a routine screening which I've done many times before. I didn't have any other symptoms. I did the test on the 6 March, received letter with the positive result on the11 March giving me a hospital consultation appointment on the 22 March when a lovely nurse talked me through the whole thing.....she then gave me my appointment date of the 20 April for the colonoscopy, which seemed so far ahead that I did enquire to have it done privately but actually it wouldn't have been any quicker. As I had a 2 week holiday already booked and didn't return until the 18th I decided to opt for the 20th. So 3 weeks today I'll have had the Plenvu and be going for the procedure. As I've already said I'm trying to stay calm and positive..... but it will definitely impact my holiday, added to which I have to begin the bowel prep on the last day of the holiday and on the 14 hour return flight (hopefully I can sleep).....I could have opted for a later date but really didn't want to delay it any longer as I'm so stressed (and it's making me constipated!!). I'm 72 so think I'm "in the zone"

  • How did your colonoscopy go xx

  • Hi, sorry I should have been more specific. It's this Saturday, so 8th April. I am getting a bit nervous now but I think it's more because of my husbands mindset. He tends to jump to worst case . Thanks for asking though :) xx

  • How did your colonoscopy go? I’m in a bit of limbo at the moment and so scared :(

  • How did you get on? I’m in a bad place with worry after a positive home fob :(
