Very worried Mum of 5yr old

Hi, I'm new to here and would like to share some of my worries about my almost 5yr old.

For the last 6-8 months, he just hasn't been right. Pale, tired, sleeping 14hrs a night, strange rashes that no steroids or creams work on, itching, reduced intake and now we have noticed night sweats. He's thin, but they say hasn't lost weight in the 6 weeks between his last recorded weights ... but he's also not gaining any.

He has a visible enlarged node in his groin and also ones you can feel in the other as well as enlarged neck nodes. He had an uss abdo today and his stomach nodes around his belly button seemed enlarged (which they tell me is common in children who have had viral infections etc - he HASNT been unwell with cough, colds, sickness bugs etc). He was initially sent for the ultrasound as his liver felt enlarged on examination.

His rash what we keep being told is eczema has spread all over his body - nothing is working on it and it continues to get worse. He is clawing at his skin constantly.

His bloods are stable - which I know can be in lymphomas.

I am absolutely terrified that this is something sinister and feel like our concerns aren't being taken seriously by the doctors. This has been going on for months now and he's not our little boy anymore. He looks awful.

Has anybody else struggled before their lymphoma diagnosis getting taken seriously and were there symptoms brushed off?

thank you in advance x

  • Hello leopardprint___

I'm so sorry to hear about your son's health issues over the past few months. It sounds like it's been a difficult time for you all and I can understand your concerns that things are being missed when his symptoms don't seem to be improving in any way.

As his mother, you know your child best and what is normal or unusual for him so do keep going back to your Dr's if things don't improve. If you feel that your concerns are not being taken seriously then you can always consider raising a complaint with the practice manager.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I do hope that you have some answers soon and that things start to improve.

    Best wishes,

  • I'm really sorry to hear about your sorry with your son, clearly something's not quite right , you've got to keep on fighting , if that was me the doctirs being dismissive, I would take him to A and E and not leave until he's been checked over or ordered tests. He might only need dermatology and it's a skin condition , although if lymph nodes are affected possibly viral in some way..please keep pushing until someone listens!! Sending lots of love xx
