Breast cancer mets in lung question

Hi, I am very concerned about an ongoing situation with my wife. As background in 2015 she had Er+ breast cancer, lumpectomy and radiation, then on tamoxifen from then.

In November 2022 she developed a cough particularly at first, early in the  morning, unfortunately coincidently she at the same time she had a major vaginal bleed, long story short this resulted in her having a full hysterectomy in January and a subsequent diagnosis of uterine cancer but deemed  removed so no further treatment.  During the trauma of above we realised the cough continued but were to preoccupied to give it attention, however the cough has got worse and now she is coughing more in the morning and 'throat' clearing most of the day. She has also progressed from coughing up clear phlegm to green phlegm now, she has no other symptoms no cold or fever.

This has now been going on for 3 months, clearly the adverts about lung cancer suggest any cough that lasts more than 3 weeks should be investigated.
We did report the cough to the GP in November in passing when discussing the uterine issues, and raised it again a couple of weeks ago, tte GP prescribed a course of antibiotics, which seemed to do nothing, with that knowledge the GP ordered a chest X-ray, which she reported as 'nothing sinister seen' but a 'small amount of infection in the left base of the lung'  we are currently awaiting what she plans next given the antibiotics didn't seem to do anything.

Obviously given breast cancer can spread to lung several years after initial diagnosis I am concerned this is a possibility.  So after all that my question is,

Are there any ladies on here who have breast mets to the lungs and if so how were these discovered or what led you to get checked to get that confirmed.

Thanks for reading my message if you have made it this far.

  • Hi -  I'm afraid I don't know, but hopefully my reply will bump your post for others to see.

wow you have both been through a lot.  I really hope the cough isn't anything sinister

  • Hi I understand your concerns re your wife , all I can say is my father who's 79 now almost has COPD he's had it for years, started as bronchitis , buthe was a heavy smoker gave up when he was 50.

He still gets those symptoms alot if mucus mainly in the morning, he has had green phlegm sometimes a d the nurse said he was fine, but there were times in the past it went green and he had a chest infection , he has a spray now which is brilliant for him but he still coughs up clear phlegm and sometimes green.. sometimes he was struggling to cough so they given him some new medication to try to help clear it and make him cough... We was all worried about him but they have decided ne x-rays at first but now they don't need to, no chest infection just nothing to worry about theyjeep saying.. sometimes it can be sinuses , Nasal drip, especially in the morning. Also avoid eating mucus encouring foods like cheese and dairy as it makes it worse.

It's just thought ,it's not ajeays sinister but best to get it checked xx
